The screen you are talking about is the protective cage of a Stewart Warner "Southwind" 978M gas heater. They were a great heater (when they worked) and you could set them high enough to cook pizza if you wanted. They will bolt in similar locations as the hot water heater. But the hot water...

Looks like 5 ton heater kits to me. Very similar to the mlvw kits. The rubber connectors on the wiring would indicate at least the latter half of the 60s. Edited to add: I stand corrected. That stock code is listed in the Canadian Deuce parts manual.

    Towing M135 with a 5 ton M54

We have no traffic density here, no curves on the highway, and no hills. Also, this province seems to have no money to pay the transport inspectors to work on weekends. Even so, there are normally none between the two points I was towing. My original intent was to travel along gravel backroads...

    Towing M135 with a 5 ton M54

I towed a M135 home 60 miles about 6 years back with my Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton. I pulled all three drive shafts and tied them up. I kept the speed to 45 mph and had no issues....the truck towed as good as any trailer. I can't remember if I tied the steering to the approximate straight ahead...

Need Help on 1956 M135 In Tank Fuel Pump

As soon as you turn on the ignition switch, you should hear the motor of the pump humming. It will (should) keep on humming until you turn the switch off. If you don't hear the pump, then it isn't working. Those pumps are getting harder to find. You can leave it in place and install a 24v...

Leak behind dash? Dripping off the front axle shift lever? Read here.

The Canadian solution. I had over 20 years maintaining the Cdn M35s, so here is what I know about the subject. The Canadian Forces use the M35Cdn which has the air-shift on the dash for front axle engagement. The Canadian models had the problem with the oil coming out the shift switch as...

The little loops on the hood are for the insulating cover. They were normally included with the perfection coolant heater and the inslated battery boxes. Towards the end, a lot of that stuff was removed and discarded.

Wires on the M-series do not have to be tightened right down. Simply tightening them by hand with an extra turn or two will seat the rubber on the wire to prevent water ingress. While it is not a big issue if the cap end is tight, you will find that if somone over-tightens the wires at the...

Anytime I have seen the spring off a seal, it was caused during the installation process while hammering it into place. That is why you put grease onto the spring area of the seal, so the spring doesn't pop out while driving it in. It is very easy the spring as a loose spring can remain somewhat...

NAPA parts list for M 135?

I deal with them item by item as required. If you have access to the NAPA prolink, many of the GM part numbers for things like bearings and seals, along with other common parts used on the old deuce will cross refer over to the NAPA number is you do a search query.

Where to get rubber brake lines for M135??

Towards the end of the life cycle of our old deuces here in Canada, we went to a new larger diameter wheel cylinder. If you put in the new cylinder, you had to use the new rods. If you replaced it with an old cylinder, you had to use the old rods. Sometimes we would get new, and sometimes you...

    Generator test adaptor? generator testing?

Off the top of my head, look on that un-named auction site for 2920-00-909-2483. That was the basic NSN for them, although there were some variations. As NDT mentions, they were commonly found on the later SMPs including M151A2s (and possibly A1s?) , very late M38A1s (late 60s to early 70s here...

    Generator test adaptor? generator testing?

Not on any M135 I have ever seen. The switch activates a solenoid that traps applied hydraulic brake pressure into the brake system. To use it, you can energize the solonoid either before or during applying brake pressure. To release it, you turn the switch off and the pressure will return to...

Section8: I am not referring to your deuce or your planned markings. It is your truck so you can do as you wish. Putting your ranch markings on it seems fitting enough. M1010. I guess the best thing is to have preserved what markings were on the trucks when you found them. Otherwise, go hit up...

All that plumbing under the hood

I am responding a little late to your question about the pins, but here goes. I remember when we started getting the new larger wheel cylinders that a message came out warning us that we had to keep the proper pins with the cylinders, otherwise mixing them would cause a wheel to lock up...

It won't cause any problems. The DND does not have any copyright or claim on a diamond. It could be different if you were putting tri-service decals on the doors. The markings on that truck are mostly fantasy, as are some of the modifications done to it.

Don't quote me, but usually a diamond indicates Headquarter Sqn of an Armoured unit. I went through a couple pages trying to find the photo you are talking about, but with this thread hitting 54 pages I had to give up. Can you tell me the post number? I also just noted your discussion about the...

No, that carrier belongs to the Edmonton 2VP. The Shilo one is the one that is in dog turd brown with markings indicating service in Italy.

Yep, three more. They are all for parts though as all of the hulls (except maybe one) have been fairly butchered. I have a complete one already, so for me these are just for sustainability of the present carrier.
