Can anyone here produce such a letter from AM General? I've heard of one for several years, but I'm not sure it actually existed or if it was an assumption.
I have seen letters from various states' agencies (DMV, DOT, Dept. of Revenue, etc.) that referenced a document by Govt. Liquidation...
FYI, I am those people (hippy, climate change believer, left wing, and I don't like racists nor fascists) and I have been fighting to preserve the registration rights for former military vehicles for over a decade now. Google me if you doubt me.
If you decide to make this a one-party fight...
Banning any vehicle that was manufactured for the US armed forces will include several "civilian" vehicles, including Dodge pickups and Chevrolet pickups, blazers and impalas, as they were all used by our military.
In fact, an appeal hearing was held in Wisconsin over a 1985 Blazer which...
Ajax,
Glad it helped. That's really why I posted that info. We had a big fight on our hands here with our DMV, and I hoped to help others avoid a similar fight.
Cheers,
Paul
Yes, you can register a former military vehicle in Wisconsin with regular (Auto, Truck, Farm, etc.) annual-renewal plates as well. The Historic Military Vehicle registration is a lifetime registration option, available only to former military vehicles which have not been altered from their...
Wisconsin. $5 for LIFETIME registration.
Here's the DOT webpage on Historic Military Vehicle registration.

Here's the actual Wisconsin Statute.

Tommy2Patrick, et al,
This is kind of similar to what our DOT did in Wisconsin, back in around '08. A few thoughts (all just my opinions):
This forum is the place to discuss problems like this, BUT the moderators will not tolerate political bitching or badmouthing of people.
You should...
3rd,
It's been my observation that our individual DOTs keep an eye on various vehicle forums. The definitely share information, ever heard of the AAMVA?
So you may wish to edit a couple comments on there, lest you poke your tiger unnecessarily. 'No sense stirring a turd that don't need to be...
Title bonding is a common method of obtaining a title for a vehicle. It's one of the least-claimed types of insurance around. Google "title bonding in CA", and you'll get hits like this: https://blog.suretysolutions.com/suretynews/how-to-get-a-california-bonded-title
But a SF-97 is the...
Oops. My mistake.
On July 1, 2017 the price dropped to $5. Yup - $5 for LIFETIME REGISTRATION. Plus, no payload restriction. Best deal in the nation, I think.
Here's the link: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/vehicles/title-plates/histmilitary.aspx
Wisconsin allows HMMWVs to register, and for only $25 for lifetime registration. [s.341.266(1)(am)3, Wis. Stats.]
MIL STD 1180B has a chart in it, which specifies that military vehicles have to meet MIL STD equipment standards, AND most importantly, it lists the equivalent FMVSS requirements...
Thanks for all the advice guys.
To clarify, the truck was sold without an EUC, to a very regular bulk purchaser of govt. equip. The current owner got it from that guy.
The current owner has obtained a clear, unrestricted, unbranded Wis. title. He also has copies of the SF-97 and all other...
I wasn't able to find an answer by searching, so here goes...
Does anyone here know whether a HMMWV can be exported legally?
The vehicle in question was sold without an EUC and with a clear SF-97.
It currently has a clear, unbranded Wisconsin title.
A buyer in Germany wants to purchase...
Absolutely!
This also applies to ALL correspondence with any state DMV (DOT, SOS, etc.).
Keep a copy of everything you submit, and obtain (and save) proof of delivery on anything mailed.
Ditto what 73m819 said.
I think this is a really big deal. The title proves ownership. With you in possession of the truck but without a title, you could find yourself charged with vehicle theft. You don't need that kind of crap.
When I bought a truck out-of-state, the dealer held the title...
If I had to boil the show down into two words, they would be: ENJOYABLE and HOT.
Attendance on Saturday felt a little down from last year, but this show was a 2-day event, and overall there were probably just as many visitors over the two days. In addition, the swap area was twice as big as...
:p Quite a few. According to Private Idaho, there are 52.
"I got me a deuce, and it's as big as a whale, and we're headin' on down to The Central Wisconsin Military Show..."
(Bonus points if you know the band. ??)
MWMULES: That's great, thanks. It's awesome that these guys travel so far.
More good news, one of last year's vendors will be serving breakfast starting at 6am, plus Milwaukee Smoked BBQ will be joining the food court lineup. (If you like BBQ, this is the bomb!)
Tom asked that I reiterate...
