NOS USMC M1028 from Norway Storage

Yahoo!!! Great news! Can you share any details of the SNAFU, or are you bound to keep things to yourself? Either way, the fact remains that this is a great outcome. Glad to hear it! BTW, the heater core I got from Advance Auto Parts was at least made in Mexico rather than China. My stock...

Crank pulley play: how much is acceptable?

Well I'll be... Just found my receipt, and the seal was $13.99 after all. I could have sworn it was much less. I must have been thinking of another part. Anyway, O'Reilly PN for the balancer is PB1102N (PPI line), and it was $62.99. Seal was PN 3945 (NAT line). Good luck!

Crank pulley play: how much is acceptable?

You know, I don't know why those are all coming up at $12 now. Mine (O'Reilly's) was around $3, maybe even less. Wish I had my receipt handy! Ask at the counter, as they will be able to look it up. Just tell them it's for an '85 Blazer diesel.

Crank pulley play: how much is acceptable?

See post #15 here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/66270-harmonic-balancer-2.html My local O'Reilly's had it in stock when I bought my balancer.

Crank pulley play: how much is acceptable?

Hey CJ -- I am traveling at the moment, so no access to my receipt for a part #, but I went with the OReilly Auto Parts balancer, which is made in Australia. It appears to be a very nice part and was only about $60. I just told them I needed a balancer for an '85 Blazer with the 6.2 and it was...

    That's good advice.

NOS USMC M1028 from Norway Storage

This is a very fair point. I'll offer only this: any mods I do I try to make as reversible as possible, and any parts installed I try to keep military. I do this for purely selfish reasons. For one, I like the military feel, and second, someday, if need-be, I can sell it for significantly...

    Blackout lights - other options?

Cool info on the Mogs -- I love those trucks! We vacation in Bavaria frequently, and those buggers are a VERY common sight in winter on the mountain trails. Throw some chains on 'em, and they're unstoppable. Re: the red and green colored discs, are the filters used in the old style USGI...

    Blackout lights - other options?

Granted, you'll rarely use it, but why not fix the blackout light? There's really not much to it... very little to go wrong.

m1009 head lights on truning on

Precisely what I was thinking. It should be easy enough to check for power at the harness where the lights plug in, and trace from there. Good luck, OP!

Some random bits and pieces from KS to IL -- can anyone help?

To clarify, I am told this haul will fit in the trunk of a car; anyone headed east? I'm happy to compensate someone for their trouble!

Bottom end noise: tap/light knock & chirp? Advice needed!

I lost a wheel weight on our Saab shortly after a balance job... it's certainly possible! Hope it's that simple for you... u-joints are also a good idea to check, and also search "death wobble." Good luck, and keep us posted!

Some random bits and pieces from KS to IL -- can anyone help?

Hey gents -- I have a buddy in Wakarusa, KS who has a bunch of CUCV and assorted other parts to send my way (antenna, radio shelf, NATO slave cable, etc... -- a fair bit of "stuff"), and I was hoping someone might be heading through eastbound on I-70 and be willing to tote it as far as I-70 and...

Bottom end noise: tap/light knock & chirp? Advice needed!

I checked my flywheel first -- no cracks there. I disconnected all drive belts, and that wasn't it, and I replaced the harmonic dampener (it needed it anyway) too. The squeak is still there. I really think that in my case it's the exhaust. My truck is running great -- starting easily on...

What is this and what does it do?

This thread got entertaining real fast! Seriously, though, OP -- you need to let us know where the other end of that hose goes. It's all just guessing until you do that.

Anybody else use LMC coolant hoses have trouble?

Could you try leaving it on the dash on a sunny day to see if it'll soften up at all? I guess it's a little late in the year to rely on solar energy to soften up a hose, though... maybe a little hair-dryer action to soften it up before installation? I had to do that with the hoses to my heater...

Moss covered M1009 followed me home.

That truck had a rough late life -- let's see some interior pics!

    anything 1009's are notorious for?

That's the spirit! Keep watching this forum for an idea of the common problem areas on these trucks. For instance, I just swapped out the harmonic balancer on mine (more a preventative procedure than one of absolute necessity, though I did find a few dry rot cracks in the rubber on the old...

Crank pulley play: how much is acceptable?

Just to update -- I FINALLY got a chance to R&R my balancer, and the play in the pulley is gone. I have yet to drive it, but at idle, it looks to be smooth as can be. I discovered a little bit of gunk (perhaps some kind of adhesive residue) on the mating face of the crank pulley, which I...
