I was wondering why I couldn't find the chat. I did see that recent incident with "macyyy". It's a shame. One person can mess it up for the whole bunch.
A friend at work (Army veteran, recent Middle East wars) told me of these vehicles being in the shop more than they were in the field. Can anyone agree or disagree with him?
Another friend at work says he can get them at a price I don't believe (if it's a fully functional, running truck that...
That picture you posted of the OBS C/K is exactly what I pictured in my head. Like a Ram Mega Cab-style GM. It's sexy. I think the whole thing would look great in whatever mil spec finish you choose.
In retrospect, my reply wasn't clear. I was referring to the Mega Cab-looking chop vs the standard crew cab chop. Also, I've been considering an HMMWV-style exhaust stack for my brainchildren. (May militarize my '08 Tundra)
Observe:
This shouldn't require a space between bed and cab. I'd also...
Will the bed be shortened to accommodate the cab extension? I don't know about usability, but the extension could be more comfortable for back seat passengers. As much as I would prefer the extension, I feel the other option would be more in line with a military look.
I think I misspoke when I was typing. I don't think I'd try 2.5T or 5T axles. I think I'd go with Chevy 1T, 8-bolt axles and run HMMWV wheels/tires on it. I don't recall if I mentioned the exhaust, but it would resemble the HMMWV setup.
I'm also thinking of "militarizing" a 2001-2006 Tahoe. It...
That 'shopped example is exactly what I'd like it to look like. I've seen some diesel, 4x4, 2500 Suburbans for sale on some auction sites as of late. I think those would make great donors for a new guts truck.
I'm a member there, too, but I haven't gotten around to digging. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, just trying to get a rugged platform and make it my own.
Nobody forced y'all to read this. Nor to respond. I'm one to go against the grain in most things I do. I'm no stranger to opposition. I enjoy problem solving and learning. This seems to be a suitable project for both of those.
I asked for opinions. That's what I've gotten so far, and I hope...
