Hey all! Update. Got the MEP-803A hooked up to the house after the electritian did his magic on the breaker box and line to the side of the house. Works like a charm! It wont run the whole house but it will run a lot of it! Plenty of it in fact. AC, hot water heater, 2 fridges, freezer, all the...
Nah...I don't like the computer screen control. My buddy had an 806B and that went bad...NIGHTMARE...I should a bought an 004 is I am learning. Either way...I think I am good for now....I should have this whole thing set up and running in the next day or so and then I will know what's what.
I...
I get you. I could do the same and grew up without A/C but now with two young children under 3 in south florida with a hurricane in august...The piece of mind gained by keeping the house cool frees up a lot of bandwidth.
Automatic load balancing and all that. I can manually turn things on. I am mildly technically proficient but nothing compared to you guys on this site.
I appreciate the good advice. I am actually buying it from a guy in VA that has two and has had them for a few years. He used to work on generators but is now 79 and went to a natural gas auto switch over because he cant deal with running them as he has medical issues. He has been very helpful...
You mean I cant have both? Ha! I cant afford screw it mode so common sense will have to prevail. I am totally ok with having to make adjustments. It would just be awesome to cramp the 803 and walk back into the house leaving all the neighbors wondering what the hell is in my back yard...ha .....
We are doing that manual breaker lock switch in the box and a hard wired plug outside with an angled cover so even when a cable is plugged in, it is protected from the elements. I will look into the soft start stuff for sure.
I hope you are right. The generator finally shipped today and is arriving Friday. I am having the house wired tomorrow. We should have an idea by this weekend of what is what.
I found this.... link about how they work. It does still draw the full 4500 when in high demand but runs just the pump during low use times....

I totally get it and understand but I envision having the A/C running at some point in the morning when it heats up, the coffee maker is sitting on the counter keeping my wife's Cafecito hot and the water heater kicks on by itself while she is cooking eggs for the baby. All that while I am at...
Tell me more! I saw these things but it looked like maybe it draws the 4500 watts when it runs but it was just more efficient so it didnt run as long....maybe I mis understand how those work altogether!
Gary,
I hope you are right. I have not yet received the generator. I am having a high wattage plug and breaker installed next week. I guess I will need to hook it up and see what it runs.
So far though, the electrician and I found the following.
Home: 2260 sq feet in south florida summer...
That is my long term plan, I will just run this one in single phase and run what it runs. Wiring my house to take the bigger load for the future and will eventually sell or shelf this one and get an 004 or 0005 and do the switch over.
The reason is that I want to run my whole house on a generator without having to load balance, especially because my line of work takes me away from home during hurricanes and such so I want to be able to tell my wife...just keep feeding it diesel and you are good. I just bought this MEP-803A...
