Have you ever split and cleaned the wiring block on the firewall? I have seen strange issues because of dirty contacts in this connection. Whatever GM used as a lubricant at the factory turns into a black tar. May not fix your issue but worth looking at.
Have you split and cleaned the electrical block on the firewall? That block is actually three wiring harnesses, the rear lights is one of them. The "grease" GM used turns into a black goo that sometimes a causes issues
I have found that if a lamp glows it is a ground issue. The power back feeds though the bulb. I havent looked at a CUCV in a few years so I cant point you to the issue.
Hey Clepto. Good to see your still around. I have sold or given away all my trucks and supplies. I check the boards every once in awhile. Are you still doing dent repair?
In the CUCV Helpful Threads sticky I posted a list of all the ground wire locations I had found in the wiring diagrams. You might take a look at it.

It has been awhile since I looked at the diagrams. From the -34 manual diagram E-7 you will find the 6 conductor connector just under the Ignition switch. That pin has nothing in it.
Now you have to go to diagram E-22 to find the same connector on the left side of the diagram. That pin has the...
Barrman it was great to see you the other day during the Covid event.
For those that say this thread should be in the "modified" forum, yes it probably should, but it was started by me before there was a modified forum and thus that is why it is in the regular forum. If the admin wants to move...

The parts elves should be making a delivery soon of your parts wish list. Nice to have friends in low places for the small stuff.
You might have this thing done by the time you retire. ;-)
The salvage yard in OK is:
Eagle Iron Metal, LLC
4302 OK-29
Marlow, OK 73055
(580) 658-6410
When I stopped by there a couple of years ago they would only sell whole units, They bought a dozen or so. Not sure if they still have them.
Happy 4th Tom.
Its been three years and you haven't finished? I thought it just needed the engine buttoned up and it would be good to go. What loser did you buy the hunk of junk from?
The left side in in the engine compartment, the right is in the interior and then the fusebox is mounted ontop of the interior block.
To learn how to read the wiring diagrams read the first 6 pages of Chapter 2 in the TM 9-2320-289-34. It explains what the wires sizes, labels and diagrams mean.
There are three components to the "fusbox". There is the physical block that houses the fuses. Then the interior "firewall" block and the engine compartment firewall block.
The fuse box portion is mounted to the interior firewall block. Remove the screws and separate the blocks. The wires for...
I'm confused. You want to bypass the bad fuse holder for the heater but are showing pictures of the engine side of the firewall block. The wiring is inside the cab.
Heater fuse will have three wires. Orange power from the ingition switch and two brown wires. One to the heater switch and one to...
