Oil everywhere..anyone in dfw wanna help?

You just got that thing  How long can it stay where it is? I'm tied up through the holidays with work and family coming from out of town. I'm not sure how much help I'd be since I'm fairly new at the 5-ton game myself, but I think I remember from our PBN days that we're only an hour or...

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

I think you're right. This is the only indication of a problem I've ever seen. I'll change the oil again at an accelerated schedule and see if anything more comes out.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

Nothing at all was coming from the slobber tube, and doesn't look like it has for a long time.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

My searches are turning up empty, where might I find the blow by tube? Engine is warming up.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

The compressor and attached parts are all black like the engine. I'll check to see if I can tell if it's newer than the other components. I've never seen the truck smoke excessively, only small amounts when cold. All this learning is dangerous, I'm already plotting to build some sort of...

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

It's running right now, oil pressure is 65-70psi at 140 degrees. No smoking after it warms up, there is a little while it's cold. I'm not familiar with how to test blow-by. Power seems good to me after it's warm, but I don't have another example to compare it to. Here's a video of what it...

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

This is what most of the old coolant looks like. I stirred it around to kick up any particles. Some of it does have an orange slime on the surface, but that wasn't there after the coolant change, and it's only in the buckets that were catching the water when I flushed it out, so I suspect...

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

This is the first oil change I've done. I scraped the metal chunks and they certainly aren't copper, just smeared with copper on the outside. It's more pieces aluminum I think. The truck was rebuilt at RRAD 800 miles ago.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

It runs great, the temps are fine, no coolant in the oil that I could tell. When I did the coolant change there was no oil there.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

I sifted through the oil and found one other piece of copper, and 2 tiny pin head sized pieces of aluminum that appeared to be molten at some point and dripped down into the oil. Is that any clue as to what exactly is failing in there? Thank you for the help.

Found a chunk of metal after oil change on my M923A1

Is there any hope, or should I start planning to part her out? It appears to be a thin piece of copper. The oil also has a copper sheen to it. I haven't had the heart to look for more metal in the drained oil. :(

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I used to have a magnetic parts holder in my truck. When I installed locking door handles, the screws that came with it were non magnetic stainless steel. When I lost one of them out of the tray, I might have run the tray over with the truck out of spite. Now it came back to bite me, lesson...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I installed a block heater and changed the coolant on my M923A1. I managed to break the petcock on the radiator and strip 2 sides of the nut that holds it there too. I grabbed a kiddie pool and several more 5 gallon buckets and just unhooked the radiator hose. Then I burned my last available...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I repaired my soft top with rotted threads in the front this weekend. I found an old post here with people using vinyl siding a few months ago and I finally found a single piece without having to order dozens of them. I started out cutting it in half and to length, except I had a bend in the...
