Other than U-joints check the pinion bearings, if they get a little loose the noise will come and go with the throttle.

Try any machine shop, not automotive but oil field or job shop. They should be able to handle it. Don't be surprised if it gets a little costly.

Try Mill Supply, I've used several of their panels and they fit better than most. A little trimming is always required. Be sure to cut out all the rust and treat the metal or it will come back.

Does any one know where I can find some of the oval plugs in the kick panels for my M885 ? Prefer new ones, old ones won't stay in the holes.

Well that does make it a lot better. the last one I done was about 42 years ago.

It's been a long time since I put one in. So if my memory works it is a 2 piece rope seal. It can be done with dropping the pan and loosening the main caps. now that I'm older I would pull the engine and flip it over, while it is out I would check it over and reseal everything.
