    M917 tranny questions.... update

it is a ring off of a center gear that is on the mainshaft. If you’re lucky the teeth are off the gear but I would say more than likely you might have teeth missing off the countershafts and those countershafts are all one piece, they are not individual gears on the shaft. There were some center...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Another thing, you mentioned it wanting to move at idle. I had a fresh overhaul out of the crate and it would move like that. I took the front clutch apart and found it to be very dirty. The centrifugal action of the oil in the clutch housing makes it a great filter in that debris, like fine...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Let me clarify that, it will only come out moving to the driver side but can be accessed through either PTO cover but driver side is easier.

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Sorry for the late response again. Here is what you are dealing with. Just slide it right to left, pretty sure it will only come out sliding to the driver side.

    M917 tranny questions.... update

Kinda late on this conversation but if you are wanting to clean the screen, you don’t have to pull the tube off, probably don’t want to do that anyway without pulling the front clutch off and going in that way. The screen just slides into the bottom of the pickup tube and snaps in place. Some...

    M917 tranny questions.... update

HaHa! Yeah, it was actually a reinforced paper shop towel that had been stuffed in the drain of the main gear case for the rear clutch! Pulled the rear clutch off and it was sandwiched between the two. A rebuild from Fort Polk. Had other instances of shoddy workmanship in 2 other Fort Polk...

Did you ever figure out what was going on with the gasket?

    Cat 7155 tranny

Soni had this on a shifter that I got from him. Looks like he made an adapter to shroud the sharp edge of the rectangle shift lever. Gives a little more to pull up on.

    Artisan's M916

Like Wes said, I run a 7155 over the road every week, Somewhere over 80,000 mi since July 2016. Haven't had any problems with the air system. I started out with a 2009 Fort Polk overhauled tranny, I did pull the rebuilt valve body off and put on a brand new one out of the crate. I do use a...

    Artisan's M916

Sorry to hear about the tires. You could flip them around and as the shoulder wears, the footprint is going to become more rounded and may be more prone to wondering, just my experience. If all tires are same, you could move them to a drive position and rotate forward. If it was me, I would...

    Simp's Cat 7155 Swap into a M923A1

Nothing going on with the governor? Or with the air dryer you installed?

    Simp's Cat 7155 Swap into a M923A1

Hey Wes, When you have it running, before you put the yoke on, I would make sure you have oil pressure all the way to the back. My first Fort Polk overhauled transmission wasn't and burnt the bearing up and cracked the rear clutch housing. There is a video at idle here...

    Simp's Cat 7155 Swap into a M923A1

Your transmission has a valve body heater on it. There is a guy in France that has a couple brand new surplus heater kits for sale, but I'm guessing you won't need the heater with a good air dryer. Pretty sure that is what the diamond shape sensor is for. The one between the umbilical line and...

    Simp's Cat 7155 Swap into a M923A1

I regularly gross 80,000 lbs. I still have the oil cooler lines shut off from the winter. The trans temp runs around 150 F and will get to 200 F when maneuvering or stop and go traffic. The 7155 Operation manual says 270 F is considered high and do not run there frequently or consistently. I'm...

    Simp's Cat 7155 Swap into a M923A1

simp5782, I put the 7155 behind a Detroit Series 60 430/470 hp, 1650 torque a year ago now. I have somewhere around 60,000 miles on it with no problems other than last winter when the temp dropped below 20 degrees, I believe the rear clutch would slip a little near peak torque in top gear. I...

    Artisan's M916

Glad you had a good trip! As a owner-operator, over the road trucker and self taught mechanic / repairman, I do my own alignments these days after many tires and years of getting bad alignments! I would say you have a tow-in issue. Driving the 916 in the military, I would think it hard to bend...
