    FMTV High Speed Gears

It's alot easier just to swap in the third member, then to swap axles. I did the swap and added a rear locker in 2 days of work. Also adjusted the reduction hubs correctly while I had everything apart.

    FMTV LMTV Tire balancing?

Still driving with them, only have around 1500 mile on them though. no issues, seems to work great

Who's running dynamic tire balancing beads?

I'm glad someone has a memory that works. I have had great luck with media in my motorcycle tires, and have run them at high speeds with great success. I noticed an improvement at highway speeds in my lmtv , compared to tires with no beads. Best part about the airsoft pellets is that they...

Who's running dynamic tire balancing beads?

All remember is that it was a bag and a half. I got the formula off pirate 4x4

Who's running dynamic tire balancing beads?

I have been running airsoft pellets for 2 years. I've swapped in tires without them and can tell a difference. Currently have them back on the truck. Only have about 400 mile on them. When the tires were last rotated you could still hear them rolling around in there. So they haven't turned...

    Locker owner opinions?

I don't have many miles on mine, but they have all been hard. From putting 9000lb of gravel in the truck, to pulling a ton of logs out of the muddy woods where the locker was the only reason i could get into the location. Each load of logs was at least 6000lbs. I have had zero issues so far.

Cooling fan won't shut off except in 4x4

Any chance the fording switch only works in mode (4x4). Wondering if the temp switch may be out, fualting to signal the fan to turn on. When in mode the fording switch overrides the temp switch. My guess is it's not an air system fualting. But rather a temp switch issue. My two cents,. Good...

They use a chain and a padlock to the steering wheel for security on these

    Locker owner opinions?

Installing it isn't too bad. Just time consuming and heavy parts. Took about 3 hours with a center section already out. Just make sure you look at the gear paterns before you take it all apart to you can return to the same wear patterns. Also helps that I have all the measurement tools...

    Locker owner opinions?

None of the fmtv class of vehicles came with a locker. A member on here has had some made for our axles. I think they were in the $800's. I installed one in the rear when I did the gear upgrade. Taken it into some sloppy areas getting firewood, so far so good. Not looking forward to the day...

    FMTV High Speed Gears

Well it's 3700 miles on that odometer, I trust them about as much as you can trust a military vehicle fuel guage. If that's the case my lmtv is under 500 miles on the odometer 94 vintage with no rust. Guestimate mine has around 30k on it actually. My odometer guage and a couple others look...

    FMTV High Speed Gears

Having done the swap, you want to to do the take the hub apart method. The weights of the parts involved are high. Additionally the inside wheel bearing should be serviced every so often. On the fronts I found the hardest part was getting the axle shafts re-installed. Getting the splines...

    starter problem

The problem is the rebuilders are not in Nome Alaska, the turn around time would be months and cost for air freight is crazy. That and he needs this truck for work. I believe his plan would be to aquire one that works and have this one rebuilt and on the shelf for next time.

LMTV M1078 Transmission Fluid Change To ATF Write Up

Here is another negative for leaving the motor oil. In cold environments it can be quite viscous, and a mechanic I know said on about 40-50 FMTV/LMTV’s he has serviced, he found the trans filters crushed. He believes it’s from the vacuum created at the filter when the oil can not freely pass...

    M1078 GVWR Over the Road

4.5 tons, I do not recommend this. I drove 5 miles max speed of 35 with this and you can feel the cog. FWIW Michelin on the rear 12300lb capacity at 100psi. Horses will be happy with their dry paddock

    Locker install

All the parts went back but the spider. If my memory serves me correct.

    Internet diagnostics

I’d have him check the transmission oil level as well since it uses motor oil. If it’s coming from the wheels, disconnect the ctis as it’s blowing hub oil through the ctis seal.

    Greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings

Kroil, the oil that creeps. Also had luck with an air hammer breaking rust bonds.
