I'm not sure of the problem - perhaps it is simply my throttle linkage sticking? Often when driving and hitting the accelerator, the engine revs up to maximum RPM's and won't decelerate when I take my foot off. I have to jump into neutral. The accelerator linkage looks ok - but it sticks...
Not sure how the damage occurred but I ended up buying used parts from Eastern Surplus and finished the job today. Everything works great --- really thrilled to be back on the road. Thanks again.
The park brake lever has no tension on it and nothing happens at all when it is moved.
I use the override on the dash - otherwise the truck doesn't get above 20 mph. with the override on, I can get to 55mph... my thought was brakes were locked up.

My mistake... I believe it's the Emergency Brake that is tore up and not the Spring Brake as the protective cover that is damaged is over the drive shaft. I can feel two brake shoes in there where the protective cover has been pulled back with a crowbar. One shoe and is loose and just...

I have a 1985 M939 and the guy I bought the truck said the spring brake wasn't working... bought the truck anyway only to find that someone had damaged it with a crow bar as if they were trying to get into the protective cover around the drive shaft and removed it...
