I'm half thinking it's the cold start advance also. I'm going to have to see if I could wire up a multimeter to the solenoid and watch for power on it. See if my morning hammering goes away with that... Looks like it's time to dig into the TMs.

I had discovered a drip of coolant on my '93 M998 A0. It was from the larger of the rear hoses on the lower unit where the drain is. The hose is tight as heck so I moved the pipe clamp 1/8 of an inch up and solved that leak...
I did a drain, added distilled water and two bottles of thermocure...
If the afterglow bothers you, look up the reasons to switch to the latest S3 glowplug controller box. RWH has posted a list somewhere on all the benefits/reasons to upgrade to it.

I am not sure the "proper" wat to do it but i would pick a convenient spot to ground them, and then do a continuity test from that spot to the neg battery post to see if you have a decent ground.

Here is what goes where:
5A IGN
586a IGN
2A A/C
3B Ground
Ground strap attach between ground on generator and long bolt on water crossover.
new cable from install kit-goes between positive output on generator and +24v side of batteries.

They get joined at the forward of the two posts on the regulator. At least thats what i did on mine and its working.

So here is an idea just to quiet the naysayers and be able to say i told you so. On the connection points add sensor ports, also add in a control valve to stop flow at the back of the block connection. And then some experiments could be done in that the truck is run up to temp closed off... well...
