Compression ratio is much higher in diesel engines. There is no spark plug to appropriately time the ignition of the gasoline. Ignition of gasoline happens a good bit before the Piston reaches top dead center. The ignition of gasoline under pressure (in the absence of spark plug) is much more...

Only thing I can think of is transmission. At 32-35 the transmission might be trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I don't know all the internals of the HMMWV's 3 speed transmission to speculate what part might be the issue during the shift from 2nd to 3rd. McReddy
