Can anyone tell me the distance from the plastic grill to the back of the vertical rib on the brush guard?
I'm mocking mine up to fab brackets to attach it to my new winch mount and I think it's too far away from the grill currently. My original CUCV bumper is long gone so I can't fit check...
I'm not sure about OP, but I'm at sea level and I have a turbo. Still gets 14-16 mpg.
And I don't have any mufflers and it's terrible. The downpipe comes off the turbo and dumps right behind the passenger front tire because I haven't had time to make an exhaust, and it's the loudest vehicle...
I've had Warn Premium hubs (part number 20990) in my 1009 for a few years, and they seem to be basically junk.
I still have the front 10 bolt which is not known for being a particularly strong axle in a full size diesel truck, and these hubs are by far the weakest part of it. I've had 3...
I've never got more than 16 mpg out of my 1009.
It was as bad as 11-12 when I bought it, and with brand new injectors, IP, front and rear brakes and wheel bearings all properly adjusted, all new steering, ball joints and alignment it's in the 14-16 range now. I also have an SM465/NP205 and...
Did you remove the proportioning valve because of the disc brake swap? Or is that recommended for the factory brake configuration?
I've not heard of this GM bulletin, do you have any information I can use to look it up?
Well apparently I'm having all kinds of brake problems. Probably ought to change the title of the thread at this point...
I did replace the front calipers and master cylinder, since they seemed to be having problems. The pedal still feels terrible after running 2 quarts of brake fluid through...
In this case, would you expect cracking the bleeder screw to release the caliper? That's how I've tested for collapsed hoses in the past and I assume it would work the same on a CUCV
I refilled the fluid and bled the rear brakes and the pedal feel is back to normal. So that's good
The master cylinder could be leaking. The hydraulic lines coming off the brake booster have a lot of oily mud on them and I assumed it was the lines leaking. But it could be brake fluid leaking...
I was driving my 1009 the other day and the brake pedal got pretty squishy. Upon returning home I noticed the reservoir for the rear brake circuit with completely empty of fluid. I haven't found an obvious leak which is surprising, but there has to be a leak somewhere and I'm sure I will find it...
My 1009 is a heavy pig. I knew that. I haul a lot of stuff around in it on the regular.
33x12.50r15 tires and a full size spare, huge steel plate bumpers front and rear, winch up front, full 27 gallon fuel tank, full 10 gallon water tank, a big steel truss welded on the rear axle, 24v fridge...
My solution was to install gauges in both the front and the back of the head to monitor what is happening in my engine, in real time, and use that data to decide for myself what upgrades are warranted. Instead of relying on speculation or reports from others' applications which may be different...
Is that the dual thermostat that was used on the later 6.5? I've never had a truck with one, but I've seen them in here and other forums.
Lots of people seem to have CUCVs that run cool with the single thermostat setup so I'm not sure if that is my problem, but I'd honestly be willing to try...
I recently replaced the fan clutch with a new Hayden unit, 2840 I think? I am only overheating on the highway or under heavy engine load off road. At idle and cruising under 40mph the engine runs fine even with AC on full. I assumed that the fan was working if it cooled at low road speeds and...
Yes, I have a GM1 turbo. Not the most efficient thing, I know. I will read your thread and see if there is anything I can apply to my situation.
I've read on here and elsewhere on the Internet that 210 is the upper limit, and 220+ can lead to cracking the heads and block. I agree that with a...
Does anyone know the core thickness of the original radiator, or have one you could measure at some point? I dont have one to measure unfortunately.
My current radiator is a 1.75" core, which I agree is probably too small. That said, a 2 row radiator with 1" tubes (granted not what I have)...
I am having overheating problems with my 1009, and would appreciate any help.
It has a new badger diesel rebuilt IP, new injectors, and starts right up even in sub-freezing weather. The engine runs great, sounds great, and makes good power. But if its hot outside (>90F) or if I try to pull...
I thought the glow plugs were closer to a 200A load?
Honestly I would be much more worried about failure of a junk Amazon high power buck converter then cascade failure of glow plugs in a properly maintained CUCV. Keep your glow system in good working order and your plugs will last for many...
12v sealed beams you can easily replace at any parts store with a relay harness is the way.
The relay harness is easy to put together, lots of write ups on the Internet how to do it. Or you can buy one for cheap. Either way it's definitely worth it
