Thoughts on modifying an original truck

I like how you have blacked out your grill, gives it more definition, contrast. Fine looking 1009, Chevrolet's GMC always look good lifted with larger rubber.

Operation: Gertrude. Kendelrios M715 restoration thread

What an adventure Ken! Its been a year since I looked into the thread, and I believe I missed allot of interesting things as they happened. Having a good specimen to start really helped with the transformation from abandoned to Gertrude being a useful Beauty. And that choice of rubber really...

Dodge 218CI Flathead six rebuildable block (No head, No pistons, or connecting rods) have other engine parts.

I believe the parts will work on a car also. These parts were very hard to find 25 years ago.

Thoughts on modifying an original truck

Hello Finnegan, can you do most of the mods or will they be farmed out? Long term project or immediate build with a modest budget? Do you propose on being comfortable or go spartan while traveling to your camping, offroad adventures? CUCV's are not luxury vehicles for sure but are very capable...

    TH400 Won't Shift

Also check to see if your shift lever grommets are in place, one ay steering column and one at transmission connection. It may not be going into drive on the transmission selector at transmission. Rubber grommets will eventually break and disappear.

    TH400 Won't Shift

Check your kickdown switch voltage at the transmission switch connector. If you have 12v there it is locked in passing gear. You can check this with the engine off and the key on.

    Power steering fluid capacity

This topic has been discussed in the past many times. And your most likely right, 1 less oil to distribute in the system. I am curious what was put in the factory.

    Power steering fluid capacity

I recommend power steering fluid. It is different from Dextron. Read up on the differences and decide, there is a reason it is called power steering fluid. I would dump all the fluid in the system as you do not know what is in there and do not want to have contaminated fluid in the system...

Blown head gasket or something else?

If you decide to remove heads replacing the head bolts would be a GREAT idea. Arp makes replacements. As for 6.2 cylinder heads all the used heads that I have ever looked at had cracks between the valves. Whether 1 cylinder or 4 at least 1 combustion chamber had a crack. Some are worse than...

    1984 6.2 Oil

I add Lucas Oil Treatment to my oil. It may not need it but between Rotella and Lucas the engine is clean and the oil stays clean longer.

What items do you carry in your truck?

And kind of outdated, but all my trucks have CB radio's. Cell phones are new tech but I can still reach out with my Radio.

What items do you carry in your truck?

Simply amazing what you can put in ammo cans also. On the CUCV 30 or 50 cal ammunition boxes fit behind seat. Fill one with survival food and another with simple tools. The med kit is number one no matter what you are doing it is there. And the fire extinguisher bracket was there for a reason...

    M1009 Major Starting Issues

Anytime I buy a vehicle the second item is a manual, maintenance and shop. Video options are great, and I find myself using them more often but for new cars and trucks as the manufacturers think their cars are super secret state secrets and getting access to them is like a bank vault.

    Transmission noise when hot

If you have not checked diffs now is the time.

This fell off my starter - do I need a new starter?

Do you plan on fording streams or rivers? What about mud holes? That will determine how you want to repair starter/solenoid. There are reasons why the starter is built the way it has been designed. And it may have been to the low bidder but it was still made for the U.S. Military to be used...

    1966 10 ton M123-A1C....Dirt71

Dirt71, sometimes the original paint goes along way with me. I like either way, fresh paint or what the service did originally. Sometimes the soul of the truck is the way service members painted or treated it. My truck, CUCV has a paint scheme that matches the base surroundings and blends very...

A Beehive of activity. What a Christmas present. Merry Christmas

    1966 10 ton M123-A1C....Dirt71

Very nice truck. The truck may need to have her legs stretched out a bit. 10 mile, 25 mile, 50 miles runs to get her juices flowing and clear out some old buildup in the exhaust. Looks like the truck has led a sheltered life. [thumbzup]

    M1008 Wire nest

Is the truck going to remain a gasoline engine?

    M1009 Starter Sparks

I agree that something is loose. Starter positive cable or starter itself could be loose but grinding would be present. Also the purple wire could be loose on the solenoid. The solenoid could also be loose. Look at it at night and you can see the arching much better.
