Been a long time. Reinstalling head on Dads M1028, what size tap do I need for the bolt holes to run through it?

Hey guys it's been a long while but I'm about to reinstall the head on dad's M1028. Heard you have to put a tap in the threads before installing and putting new head studs in it. Do yall know what size tap to use for the stud holes before putting the rebuilt head on. I really appreciate this...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks mullany, so the fronts are very prone to having bad Rust? And why do you say bring a refrigerator magnet? Is it to see what has bondo on it? I currently have $7800 but it seems nobody wants Deuce's in the area of town I live in so that's good.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks mullany, dad wanted me to ask so we can know for future reference. But it's a 1971 with winch and locking hubs and power steering. He wants $10,500 for it and it's very straight and unabused, no rust on it whatsoever.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

So there's a deuce I'm wanting to check out in my area for sale and I'm pretty sure it has asbestos brakes, for future reference, do any of y'all know how to change those brakes? And a way to do it without breathing in the dust?

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks a bundle HD, and love the story on your A3. I don't know why but the ol 2.5 tons seem to have won my heart outside of the 5 tons. Don't get me wrong I love the 5 tons but there's something special about the 2.5 tons to me, the seem just right for me ( payload capacity wise and size...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

I really appreciate the knowledge you shared HD, but heck there's so many military trucks I want outside of the M35A2 also, would love to have a 5 ton and a m35a3, but being a almost 22 year old I want to get one big military truck for now and after I get my own place get maybe a couple more...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Never knew about a bearing in the seat, so you're saying if you had a choice you'd just get a 5 ton?

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks for the step by step process SC, yeah I'm gonna need to start getting some tools after I get my deuce in the future. Gonna invest into a big bottle jack and some rugged stands and other heavy duty tools I may need. But looking forward to all of it.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks for the wealthy knowledge Rusty, I was really going to say if these were prone to throwing rods we wouldn't see them on the roads or at parades and such, but the more I watch on YouTube and hear from others on the forum about all the postitvity of the deuce, the happier I feel. I'm sorry...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks again V8, I was gonna say you still see Deuce's here and there and I never really hear anything about rods flying very often, like you said turned up injection pumps and another is over revving them Ive heard these motors like to stay around 2k at tops. Yeah sorry V8 I hate to admit it...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks G7, that's true what you said tho about all them having their own problems, so I guess not to worry about it throwing a rod? Sorry G7 and others that may read and enter this thread, just worry about stuff like that.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Sounds like a gamble buying one due to the risk of throwing a rod and destroying the motor

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Never heard about them throwing rods, thought the motor before the LTD 465 was the problematic motor

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks V8, a thing I want to ask you is how much of a pain is it replacing the seals when the time comes? Just curious cause I want to be prepared for whenever I have to along with the brakes. I honestly will drive mine at the most twice a week. But so far sounds like these Deuce's are not bad...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks again 98, yeah I understand these trucks are older and stuff starts to go out and such, but sounds like overall these really ain't bad. Just trying to get all the knowledge I can on these so I'll know what to look for and listen to on them whenever the time comes for me to go look at one...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks again 98, I won't be taking it through severe stuff like submerging it all the way to the motor and not gonna be revving the snot out of it. Just for cruising, woods truck, an occasional job. And just neat to have. Thanks for the tips.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks for your experience captain, I understand if it was a particular one that had a slew of bugs but I understand these trucks are older and stuff will wear out and need some repairs and such. But like karl was saying it's always good to have a routine check on everything to make sure...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

Thanks for all the knowledge karl, I'm glad to hear your experience with the Deuce's and maybe whoever dad read about their story with their deuce was just that particular deuce, every deuce has its own story and different treatments during it's life on the bases. But I just wanted to be sure...
