Hello!
I've recently noticed my glow plug system is behaving differently. Since my owenership I've replaced the controller card, relay, and all 8 plugs. Basically the stock system. It had been cycling on and off a few times when the truck started for years. Maybe 2-4 times depending on...
Something has changed. Since I've owned this truck from GovPlanet, it shifts hard into gear. It would hold the gear until about 16 - 20 MPH and third at over 35 MPH. When it would shift to second in a corner, it would chirp the tires. It would ease up when the truck warmed up but it was never...
Today was the final day! After letting everything cool off for the night (mostly me cooling off), I was able to get the rusty bumper bolts loose enough to chase the threads and assemble the parts back together. Off to the next project!
Well, I'm still at it. I decided to really go after the 'death wobble'. I've narrowed it down to the tires from 2008 that are on the truck. New ones are on order and should ship on Friday.
In the mean time I've been working the door panels - thanks to Rick and his idea. They are getting...
Oh man that's funny because that exact same thing happen to me but I was driving down the highway at the time and heard the belt depart the engine compartment and the light came on. From the sound and the timing of the light coming on, I had a location to look.
Well....I can see what you're saying now that the panel is off but in the moment that never crossed my mind. I'll have to ask next time before I start with a pry bar.
When you say clean - What do you use? Soap and water or degreaser or ?
Thanks! I have the door panels but they are all chaulky and I'm not sure I could save them. If I had to reuse them, I'd need a new arm rest and the felt piece is brittle.
Since I want them to match, I figured a trying something new but not sure who to go with.
I needed to replace my door lock on the driverside. As it always is, the last few screws ruined a quick job. The door pad screws were rusted so bad that I broke 3 drill bits trying to get them out. In the end, I pryed off the arm rest and I now need a new door panel.
There are quite a few...
I tried 2 of those duramax filter bases and they leaked pretty bad. Worse than the stock one I replaced. I ended up with a Racor 445R with fuel heater.
I even rebuilt one of the duramax filters bases and sit still leaked. I think the new lift pump was too much pressure for it.
I'm really not an expert by any means. I do/did have a M1031 and the RPMs would sometimes come up and other times they wouldn't. I think my problem was a corroded ground under the truck near the PTO on the frame. This may or may not help.
UPDATE - I went with a Racor 445R with fuel heater. It cost more than the Duramax filter set up (but not by much when I ordered 2 sets of filters and bases) but it has been in the truck for a few months.
I think the Duramax filters might have worked for me if I re-routed fuel filter before the...
A mix of sources. I bought one from ebay and another off Amazon. I bought the rebuild kit off Amazon. It was ok after the rebuild but now it is so bad I won't start it. I'm surprised it has enough fuel pressure to run.
I might try the Napa style next. I'd like a Racor but I'm not having...
Keep me away from the matches!!!!
I've had 2 different filter heads like this in the truck over the past few months. I can't get them to not leak...and I'm being nice with the term leak. They are pounding out diesel. Way worse than the stock one I removed. I even tried a rebuild kit on one...
I'm thinking my rough idle problem and that leaking fuel filter base were connected. I haven't experienced the low idle and stalling on warm starts.
I also think the truck has more power. It shifted up to 3rd on a hill that it didn't used to do.
I have a few more projects to get out of the...
Finally have the truck out of the garage. I tackled the kingpins and fixed my fuel filter leak by replacing the fuel filter assembly.
It no longer leaks but I still have a death wobble. The old tires are the last thing we need to replace to fix that.
