RAILROAD CROSSING SAFETY - Sheriff Officer Hit - could have been any of us.

WOW! Can't believe he wasn't killed. Trains are one thing I NEVER mess with. You would think that after all the assorted train vs/car/truck collision videos everyone sees on the news almost daily, that nobody would do such a dumb thing. What will it take to stop such insanity?

MV Addiction filled. Reis the Beast M1078A0 is born

"think i have stumbled on the problem." Myself, I will take lucky over good any day if it saves me time and frustration. Here's to many more "lucky" problem fixes! BTW, you are making me very jealous. I was hoping to be working on our M1083 at the pace you are going. Unfortunately, I decided to...

Looking for input from folks building camper boxes on lm/fm trucks on heat & a/c

One more thing. We have a Webasto bunk heater in our Ford F350 truck with a service body that we converted to a camper for our winter vacation trips. No insulation and the camper shell has been in weather down to 4 deg. F. The heater keeps it at 70 without a problem, even with a leaky pair of...

Looking for input from folks building camper boxes on lm/fm trucks on heat & a/c

Wow, I actually found a much cheaper combination stove top, air heater right away. This one is about $2500 cheaper than the one I was thinking of. https://www.yachtboatparts.com/wallas-kmw85-ceramic-diesel-stove-hob-2530-p.asp Here's some more cooktop and air heaters...

Looking for input from folks building camper boxes on lm/fm trucks on heat & a/c

I've been doing some research on this myself for our M1083. (Going to be a while before we actually start). But I have found 3 different ideas. 1. Truck bunk heaters that run on diesel. 2. Heaters for water similar to the bunk heaters or engine warmers which look VERY useful for more than air...

Our first hand experience with an Acela 6x6 camper for 2 days. We made a video

Thank you! Now I don't have to do the frame flex test myself! Dang, I already had the hill picked out at my buddy Pete's house to do it on! Their spring mounted subframe is exactly what I was figuring I would need. I've seen that same setup on some straight trucks used off highway in the...

Suspension torque rods.......new dust boots available?

OK. I take it nobody has any idea of a source. Next question......is anyone else having the same problem? I'm thinking of making a mold and rolling my own. I can either make a temporary mold for the ones I need or, make a permanent mold in case others are interested? Just a real rough...

Suspension torque rods.......new dust boots available?

On the rear of the M1083's there are 4 dog bone and 2 V shaped torque arms. I just bought a whole set to replace my beat up units. But the NOS rods have been sitting for a while and I noticed their dust boots are starting to crack. Anyone have a source for these boots? Or maybe some...

M1083 tractor protection valve. A little help from someone who has had theirs apart?

The kit was $21 and the cheapest valve was well over $100. Plus, with the money I saved I was able to pick up enough nylon brake line and brass parts to replace all the lines going to the valve. Some of them are feeling a bit stiff and fragile. Figured I would keep them from giving me future...

M1083 tractor protection valve. A little help from someone who has had theirs apart?

Definitely had to rebuild the whole thing. The plunger inside the main (metal) housing was stuck and would not let air go to the rear glad hand.. And I wouldn't recommend just fixing the one diaphragm. If that plunger sticks and your trailer has a large leak, it probably wont do any "protecting"...

NOT Thigh Gap :P (Door Gap)

That's a neat style of trim you found there! I'm sure it will help keeping some of the dust out and, if you drive in cold weather it probably will help keep in cab temps up. I have quite a bit to do before I mess with door alignment/broken handles but, I will keep this item in mind.

M1083 tractor protection valve. A little help from someone who has had theirs apart?

So, the TPV has failed on our M1083. Not a big deal. With all the good info here I was able to get the kit and remove the valve. My problem is, I have not been able to find an exploded view of the valve ANYWHERE! A member here posted some pics of his but they just don't show what I happen to...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2018 - May VOTE HERE!

Congratulations Floridianson! Some vehicles have easy to imagine "faces", Your wrecker really reminds me of the Cartoon character "Droopy the Dog". He was always one of my favorites.

    I hate to brag but.....

I'm pretty sure it is nothing special. I think I remember buying about a dozen or so different sizes from True Value hardware years ago for a project I didn't have the size of. I can tell you that the grommet fits in the washer bottle almost perfect. Not too tight or loose once you get it in...

    I hate to brag but.....

That's the beauty of my situation. EVERYTHING can't go terrible because, a couple of things have already gone good! I'm sure I'll see some of that terrible but, just not today! I enjoy my good luck for what it is......fleeting!

    I hate to brag but.....

I know. But I have a habit of tempting fate. Actually, it does seem like if things go good at the beginning of my project, they tend to stay pretty good overall. If it starts out horrible? Well then, I may as well just give it away or take it to the scrap yard. So, I'm just going to enjoy...

    New guy in Idaho

Jacob, have you looked at any of the repair manuals for this truck? The military publishes some VERY detailed manuals aimed at folks with little experience. If you haven't seen them, take some time to find them online or, maybe they are here on SS. Like I said, I'm kind of new here myself. Maybe...

    New guy in Idaho

Welcome Jason! I'm pretty new myself but, it is a happy fact that there are many here that have priceless experience! A word of warning......they do like you to do a little digging for info yourself before asking for help! So make sure you try out the "Search" function with your questions before...
