If you wrap your hand around the joint and wiggle the drive shaft and can feel any difference in the movement of the two ends of the yokes, It's bad. You should feel NO difference in the rotation of the two ends as they wiggle back and forth or any play back and forth( kind of up and down)...
Remove the joints and visit a parts dealer that starts with a N and ends with an a. These are common size joints and an experienced parts guy should be able to fix you up. My 2 cents.
I think that is the thermostat circuit............................................... I believe. I'll go look.............YUP, it splits the wire to/from (I'm sure which) the thermostat.
Should be required reading for everyone with a fuel problem! i believe the translucent nature of the tanks may also contribute to the problem, sun light.
A picture is worth a thousand words!
No gauge necessary, remove the sender, crank the engine, should be a healthy squirt of black oil, no squirt big problem. Quick and dirty. My two cents.

WELCOME I'm sure one of the locals will be glad to teach your wife to say" hi youall" and perform the required liberalectomy. You are going to love the auto insurance too.
Adult in the room time............... It appears you are looking at buying a privately owned truck. I'm going out on a limb here but my guess is that some one is trying to flip a auction truck or got all stary eyed and bought into one only to learn that it is beyond their means either...
That washer is about as unique as can be. I have a suspicion its function is to locate the washer behind the plate as it is reinstalled. Simply a spacer. I would dry fit the plate and see if there is a space at the point where this washer resides. If so, any old washer will do. Epoxy one to...
Pull the glow plugs and put a big wrench on the "lugs" on the back side of the dampener on the front of the crank. "Should" turn pretty easy. My 2 cents.
A. I'm not a mechanic nor even pretend to be. B The front springs are not too bad but the rear should be left to the "talented" shade tree bunch. Screw it up and they can put your lights out! My two cents.
