Hey Guys! Been a long time! Duramax question and an overdue howdy

Yeah, that is what I am somewhat aware of... thats why I figured... or hoped (have not even found rough engine dimensions online on a brief search) that the 3.0L would be smaller and play nice size wise in a smaller engine bay. I did find someone speculating about the same prospect last year in...

Hey Guys! Been a long time! Duramax question and an overdue howdy

So it has been a few years since the CZU fires came and went, then the pandemic, and finally I did something I was not sure was possible but I/we bought our first home which where I live is quite a feat for the average joe. So it was affordable only because it is such a project but it is in the...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

thankyou for the suggestions, after the initial startup and observed leak, it has not returned in about 700 miles of driving including plenty of cold mornings. It looks like it will stay on the backburner and hopefully be fixed by way of 6.5T install in a year or so. I have some milestones in my...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Hey all, about to head up to the snow for a week, completed the phone tablet holder with indoor outdoor thermometer and clock with the backlight wired to headlights. Probably have 30 hours in that! Replaced the brushes and front bearing on the alternator. Also got the idler pulley fabbed up from...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

I am leaning to agree with you here. I am going to probably end up putting an idler in the mix eventually and see what happens. If I dig through my boneyard maybe I will find something I can mod up quick and cheap like. I dont mind the diesel clatter, but that belt twanging around like a one...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

So the alternator to wp and crank pulley is very accurate. (Tops the pulley is out a 64th over the roughly 4" pulley) like you said it is almost impossible to measure the ps pulley and the AC... But they are very close. Wouldnt imagine them making that much strum on a belt that was in a...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

I hope it is this easy! I eyeballed it (I have a pretty good one) and it did look okay, but I will measure it soon. to be clear, my setup has been converted to 12v and only retains the upper passenger alternator. It drives off of the crankshaft and shares the belt with the waterpump.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

quick update and a question for you guys... so not much time has been had for working on the rig but it looks like soon I might be able to take it out for a snow trip. I dusted it off a bit in anticipation and found the alternator was not charging... it would kind of fishbite with the...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Interesting. Reading through the issue, I am sure you are bringing the motor up to full rpms but if you run it at half rpms max (1500) you should not be exceeding the single tstat flow capacity? The 130gpm would be flowing about 65ish... When you say boiling maybe you are seeing bubbles from...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

When you say you are seeing "coolant boil" what do you mean? I assume you are running 50/50 green stuff which boils around 220? Also, what about fabbing up an Idler pulley to shorten that belt span where the vacuum pump would be? (I guess my first instinct would be to try and gut a 6.5 vac pump...

    M1010 ambulance box build reference

That is impressive! So having taken my m1010 down some somewhat dense wooded trails, while I do wish there was more headroom, I can not say how many times I have gritted my teeth while abusing the top of the box and especially my solar panels (I really need to make a deflecter and some safety...

    M1010 ambulance box build reference

yes, iirc there is a gap behind the entire plate less than an inch so if you slide on the outer skin you should be able to make it.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

if they need a volounteer for a retrofit for good PR, let him know that I would happily let my rig be given the full treatment! :D

Hah hah.... cummins? I was actually thinking of going green and doing something like this https://www.autoblog.com/2020/10/02/ev-west-tesla-motor-conversion-chevy-ls-sbc-mount/

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

For not trying you are proving to be pretty good at it. I have had less work due to covid, was evacuated for a month due to fires, and and starting to slowly put the working pieces of my life back together and don't have the time for my planned camping trip. I dont even have the money to get...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Unless you are donating a good running 8.1 for me to swap in I don't really care about this tangent being part of this thread anymore. I already gave you my reasons. Please respect that and feel free to start your own thread about your cool setup. Really you do have a nice motor. It just has...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

So I would like a show of hand on how many have a fuel mileage and maintenance logbook and who just relies on spitballing as far as overall motor health and performance? :D I have kept fillup journals on this and my worktruck since ownership... If you knew me you might be surprised to find that...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Okay, back at my desktop, found a few more pics. I hope to find some before I did any of the deck honing... I will check my laptop and update this post if I do. this is after honing as much as I had energy for. concentric circles with sandpaper around fire ring surfaces (the corrosion was deeper...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

I think my pic of the deck shows the residue from applying permatex activator in advance of using permatex hight temp thread sealant. Goop up, thread all the way in, remove, regoop and torque. No leaks. Second time doing same method. Heard good results also with ultra black. Plenty bad about...

Sure, I'm on mobile now and may have some on here, if I have better ones at home I'll add those later dark spots on deck indicate water seepage. uncleaned already "deck honed" This is all I found on my phone, will get the better ones later
