Did I Make a Mistake Buying This M1097R1 Humvee? $10.5k, No Title, Need Advice

There are a lot of things that drive the price IMO. Engine and transmission are a major consideration and make a big difference on intended use. With the 3 speed you are limited IMO to around town or local off road use. With the 4 speed it is a lot more road friendly but still not good for...

Did I Make a Mistake Buying This M1097R1 Humvee? $10.5k, No Title, Need Advice

I'd try to identify a date on some other part of the vehicle. For example the transfer case, engine, transmission, differential etc. The regulator on the alternator usually has a date code. Use that to date the year of manufacture so that you aren't just making up a number. Many states...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Thank you. It got a bunch of compliments at the show. Several people asked where I got it (the top). They were all surprised when I told them I made it that week for the show to have a place to sleep. Easy access to the side doors where the coolers are.

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Back on Page 12, Post 231 of this thread HERE I mounted the US Shift Quick 4 TCU in the dash in place of the air filter gauge. The plan was always to create a bezel for it to match the rest of the gauges. Now that I have a 3D printer and started learning how to design parts, I came up with...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

In the 3 weeks leading up to camping in my HMMWV I also wanted to tackle some of the other projects I never got to. One priority project was Door Locks! I've contemplated the replacement locking door handles but I never really liked them. Reminded me too much of file cabinet locks. Please...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

With the top done, I proceeded to make it into the smallest RV by adding a bed to it. Bought an Amazon memory foam twin size Mattress in a Box. It was a little too wide so I took it all apart and cut 3" off the side. I carpeted a piece of plywood to put down on the truck bed first and put the...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

So it's been a while since I've done an update. Life happens, you know the deal. For the most part I haven't done much other than drive it and some regular maintenance. Well that is until recently anyway. About 4 weeks ago I heard about military vehicle meet going on in a nearby state, in a...

Driver of HMMWV dead after accident...

To be clear I still drive my HMMWV. There is a clear lack of safety and in particular the H1 Hummer has brackets for lack of a better description, to prevent the hood from going through the windshield during a front end collision. The HMMWV does not have the same brackets and also many other...

Driver of HMMWV dead after accident...

I've always said these are not good daily drivers because of the lack of safety features. That said, this doesn't seem to be a case of lack of safety features but more a case of Darwinism. I wonder if Alcohol was involved? I can't imagine falling out of a HMMWV sober, with or without a seatbelt.

NOOB. Looking for a little help joining the gang.

Did you tell them it was an AM General? I had no problem registering mine.

    Parasitic Draw

What model truck? Does it have a functional dual voltage alternator? If it's a 3spd and no center tap to the batteries, how would only 1 die? They are wired in series, are they different amperage batteries? You should use a current meter in line and strategically disconnect stuff starting...

    What TSU?

I'm not an expert but I believe the TSU with the Yellow band works with Smart Start boxes. There is also a CR-2696A TSU that is also a Yellow band and should work as well.

NOOB. Looking for a little help joining the gang.

I can tell you how Maine works. The year of your M998 comes into play. In Maine you need a title for any 1995 and up vehicle. You only need a bill of sale to register in Maine for 1994 and older. If your truck is 1994 or earlier, then it will be no problem. They wont even issue a title for...

    400 amp alternator replaceable bearing?

I'd try replacing it using any method possible, worst case you still need a new one. As my signature says "If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway".

    STE/ICE connector

Having been an admin to a very large forum, I know first hand it's a thankless job and you can never make everyone happy. I only threw in my 2 cents because the guy only has 2 posts in 5 years and they are both in this thread. I hope he becomes a more active member and this is just the start...

Q: Can I mount a rear winch with this bumper and retain the receiver?

The cable might come out just below the receiver and possibly clear if the ball and mount were removed but it would limit your cable angle to down only. It would not be all that useable IMO. I had the same hitch but have no intention of towing anything so I removed it and went back to just the...
