I think you'd be fine with a 450 A generator. That's a ton of power, but the truck will only take what it needs. I think the voltage regulator is what you'd want really tested to make sure the batteries don't cook. The batteries should charge at around 28 V anyway.
For reference, I replaced...
They just had to try them all didn't they? :p
@Paweł I guess if it were me, I'd figure out whether one of those lens-lamp combinations were installed at a certain production date. Otherwise go with whatever you like most as the Army swapped parts around as they saw fit 🤷♂️ Kinda like the...
You're coming along well with your project! I'm most-impressed with the dashboard and the seats. It reminds me a lot of my truck!
The front turn signal/market lenses should be amber. If you want to get super ambitious, the cateyes below them are white :p At least that's how they were on...
I think a muffler would be a reasonable upgrade. The A3 trucks have one. I don't have to wear hearing protection while driving it, though the truck is pleasantly loud regardless :driver:
Though if it were my A2 I'd leave it as-is, but I like keeping my truck's mostly stock so that's just me 🤷♂️
If you're in a pinch and your fuel system is tight enough, you don't need an in-tank pump to drive the truck. Though it probably makes priming the fuel system a ton easier after a fuel filter change.
The M35A3 doesn't even use an in-tank pump - just the IP at the engine.
ASA plastic is the way to go here since it won't degrade with UV radiation exposure. I believe that's the same plastic that's used for making automotive bumper covers and dashboards.
Sounds like your fuel system needs to be tightened up. My truck sits all winter (several months) and has never lost its prime like that. The only time priming is an issue is when I replace the fuel filter. Then I gently crank it for some time before it fires right back up.
There might be a...
This reminds me of the F-22 vs. the F-23. The F-23 was the better ATF offering, but the USAF was banking on Lockheed's reputation and success with the F-117.
Now that's pretty gamey 😬
My truck's heater core leaks too. Until I can pull it out, I have its water control valve disconnected and tied shut with some bailing wire. It hasn't leaked since. I haven't needed heat either though :ROFLMAO: But I do want a working heater someday!
It's my understanding that the cores...
I believe that's a mounting bracket for mounting the M66 gun ring or light weapon station. I think many trucks came from the factory with the bracket. My M35A3 has that bracket, though it's somewhat obscured by the muffler and exhaust pipe.
I had no idea they did the generator thing with several vehicles. That's really neat!
Gosh this all makes me want to cobble together the nice bits of some beat up trucks into wacky stuff like this. A deuce with a M939 cab for example. That deuce looked like an oddly-short M923 - the height...
I've seen one like you described for sale on Facebook awhile ago. That one also had a built-in 3-phase generator. At the time the seller had it in pieces and gave up on the restoration. It was an odd-looking truck!
Thanks for bringing the 5TTR up! I saw the pic in the OP posted here awhile ago. It was a book scan, so your pic is much cleaner (y)
I find it interesting that they'd rebuild M939 trucks instead of M809 trucks - maybe they wanted an existing air brake setup? It makes me want to find a...
