Well alternator in and it cranks and runs like a charm. One problem, when I turn my service light switch to all on my horn starts to blow continuously. When I hit my horn it just blows in tandem like there is two horns. Any clue?
When I cranked it up the rear battery was reading 12.3 and front around 14.6. My rebuild kits came in the mail the other day and I will be rebuilding both. I appreciate all the help, now on to another phase!
Had to travel to sc for a sick family member and just got back. Replaced glow plugs and the original connectors, and it fired right up! Now I just need to reread how to trouble shoot the alternators to make sure I am in the clear. Thanks everyone for the help. What a great feeling it was when it...
I wish the Jeannie came out of the bottle!
It is turning over but not starting.
The smoke is coming from both tail pipes while the engine is turning over. Sorry for my sloppy terminology.
The white wire is connected to the off switch on the toggle.
The relay worked as far as I can tell. When engaged the toggle I read the same top and bottom. Tons of smoke but still just cranks and won't turn over.
Thank you again to everyone here. I am about to go attempt to test glow plugs and hook up the freshly charged batteries. The Relay had too many wires going to it and Doghead pointed me in the right direction in removing the wrong ones. The first picture shows the toggle switch that I have to...
Been getting around 8.5v at the wire going into the glow plugs (green) they connect into the thick orange wire which is getting 8.5 as shown. Any thoughts?
How do you test the fusible link with the rubber coating, will the wires fit back in there? Also I have to manually hold up a switch to engage the glow plugs, will I just need to set my multimeter up so that I can see while I hold it or do they still cycle on and off with just the key on.
I have messaged a few Ryan, till then I know I seem like a train wreck but at least I am having a heck of a time. I will keep coming back in to warm my hands and see what I am doing wrong! Which is the only way I learn how to do it right. Sure am glad ss is around
Am I testing them right? I hooked my Positive lead to the positive terminal and unhooked the First passenger side glowplug but got nothing when I touched the negative lead to the plug. Then it struggled to get 8volts out of the green wire connecting into it. Same thing with the next one.
10/4 that was a first gut thought because it did throw out alot of smoke when trying to crank. I am still a little mystified about the operation of the multimeter, but am learning.
Sorry I had the multimeter hooked up wrong. I tried it again with the positive lead of the multimeter to the positive terminal and the negative to the red wire and got my 12.5.
