    Since you are unsure of how to use the meter.... Continuity is resistance and it is Ohms on the meter. Flip it the resistance and touch both meter leads together and it should read zero. Then do what Doghead said.

    If you are talking about a fuse in the meter, then yes, sometimes they have fuses.

    Is it the kind that takes a battery or is it digital/analog? The one on the right is from HF but you can get them free with a coupon. Even the cheapest will work for your issue. (Could be you just need a battery. Analog and digital both need batteries.)
