    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

If you own a farm and do farming, then you can register a former military vehicle as a Farm truck. You likely do not need that CDL if you stay under 26k#, unless you use it otherwise commercially. Regardless of what (someone at) DMV told you, I don't know about vacations. Here's what their web...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Chewy, Dogtags is correct about needing a CDL for a 5-ton, but... A CDL license is not required for HMV registration, unless the particular vehicle requires a CDL (over 26000 gvw). So a deuce & 1/2 can be registered as HMV and operated without a CDL provided you don't go over 26000 #...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Robert, You had the HMV part right! As far as I know: The title still indicates who owns the vehicle. The title brands do not change this (except for liens, etc. perhaps). Some title brands are required under Wis. state law. I'm not sure if any are required under Fed. law. Some were...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Mhatfield, Dogtags is correct, that HMV registration will probably suit your needs just fine. Occasional personal use means you can use it any day of the year, but not as a daily driver. Yes, it's a bit ambiguous, as most laws are. Around here, that means you can use it for whatever purpose...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

No, there is a $30 one-time registration fee, and then there is NO annual fee required for as long as YOU own the truck. It is a lifetime registration, just like Hobbyist, Collector, and Antique plates are in Wisconsin. We really have pretty good choices now.

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

To EVERYONE, You absolutely DO NOT have to register it as a 16,000# truck in addition to registering it as HMV. HMV is a registration option instead of Collector, Hobbyist, Annual Truck, etc.. It only costs $30, but the ppwk must go to Madison if you are going to register as HMV. If you plan...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Tom and I have prepared a handout for owners, to give an overview of how Wis. Lifetime Registration laws effect things. It is written to reflect the law that will take effect on Mar. 1, 2014. It has not yet been reviewed nor approved by WisDOT, but we simply summarized Wisconsin Statutes and...

The effective date is Mar. 1, 2014. Sorry, I should have posted that here. (First day of the third month following the signing, not counting the month of the signing.) JP, Ouch. Sorry to hear about your truck. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Paul

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Today, the Senate Transportation Committee voted 5-0 In Favor of our bill. This means we have gotten the unanimous approval of the Transportation Committees in both houses, the Senate and the Assembly. The next step is a floor vote before the full Senate and the full Assembly. If they both...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Trukhead, Well, as much as I hate to discourage public participation, at this point I think we should remain silent. I've been told that at least one of the five members of the Sen. Trans. Comm. does not like to be barraged with calls, and I'm comfortable that the committee is behind our bill...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

VenomInjected, You are CORRECT, that an M1008 CAN BE REGISTERED with Light Truck C plates in Wisconsin once again. You have your choice of applicable plates: Light Truck, Farm, Collector, Hobbyist, etc. (You have to own a farm for Farm plates, vehicle must be over 20 years old for...

    Good Change Coming In Wisconsin

Bump to top. This is the most current thread about legislation in Wis., and I want it to be the first one people see. Word last week is that votes on the bill will likely not occur until Sept. That's politics. We're disappointed, but undeterred. Stay tuned.
