The shop said the TC was the culprit, not the transmission? I'd be concerned about the transmission, specially if you have burnt fluid. I'd be hesitant to buy a new converter, then fry your trans and get all that crud into your new converter. As to your converter being hot to the touch... -

Why are you pulling your transmission. Is there a problem with it or the torque converter? If its in need of a rebuild then its a good idea to replace your TC while you're at it since the trash and debris from a blown tranny will also have contaminated your TC. If you replace it, DO NOT get a...
