I just "got" the impact of your post. Did you have to replace the transfer case or were you able to catch it in time?
We had big power dividers (transfer cases) that had external lube pumps on some of the drill rigs. After a few expensive failures, we stepped the pump up a size to make sure...
I just remembered I set up a DropBox when trying to help resolve the original MK48 nightmare back in May. I had uploaded the -24P and the -34_Maintenance to the box along with some excerpts.
Here is the link Click here to view MK48 TM-08780B-24P Let me know if it doesn't work.
As 73m819 said, the MK15 and MK15A1 are in TM 08780B-10. As far as I know, the MK18A1 was the only outlier.
I have the 2004 PDF versions of the -10, -20 Organizational Maintenance, -24 Parts, and -34 Support Parts & Maintenance if anyone needs them.
Send me a PM if you want any of them & we...
Thanks, it's great to get this.
I just remembered that as far as I know, no one on SS has been able to come up with the TM for the MK18A1 rear unit, maybe the guy you talked to has access to that too.
Has anyone found the Lubrication Order for the MK48? I've looked some without success. There was a thread earlier this year
From Olive Drab site - "The lubrication order is Marine Corps Lubrication Instruction LI 2320-12/9B or Army Lubrication Order LO 9-2320-297-12. It consists of 25 cards."...
Congratulations! That looked like a huge job. I'm curious what you will find if/when you look into what failed on the transfer case.
Put it to work and have fun with it.
As they say, great minds think alike!
Actually, I hadn't heard of it before I learned it from one of the drillers I worked with about 5 years ago. It has really helped a lot on projects where there are a lot of different hoses. I posted to make a tiny payback for all the knowledge I've...
Many of the drill rigs we work on have even more hoses and a good system of marking/labeling them can save a lot of time when it goes back together. We used different color zip ties. Or even better, we got some old 25 pair phone cable and cut 6" lengths. They have a standard color code scheme...
I recall that Harrison bought some of the nicest MK48 units that came out.
Also, FYI, I got a couple of the MK48A1 (NSN 2320-01-417-3180) front units & did a little research at the time. There doesn't seem to be many changes for the A1 version. The 2004 versions of TM 08780B-24P & TM...
I'd be inclined to go with RDUKW's recommendation. The transfer case would probably be easier than the transmission, but still a big job. And, the first time you do any repair is when you pay the price of the learning curve.
RDUKW, I remember your thread about the problem with the Allison in...
MK48 transfer case
Artisan & Suprman have correct part # & NSN for the MK48 transfer case – the ones in Nevada are for the Hemmt & very different. See photos
Both the transmission and the transfer case shift via a cable –see page 2-350 of TM 08780B-24P for diagram of trans and page 2-421...
How did it drive in the 1/4 mile to your driveway? Any weird noises? The jumping out of gear & grinding noises does sound more likely to be a transfer case issue than Allison. I haven't had any similar issues with MK48, so I don't have any great solutions to offer.
Have you tried putting it in...
