The transfer case has an internal locking differential that is used to "lock" the front output shaft to the rear output shaft. In unlocked, the two outputs can turn at different speeds depending upon traction.

The hydraulic hoses that feed the rear unit are of different sizes with mating ends. Will be a good idea to take plenty of photos to ensure the routing is the same when putting back together.

Sounds like you bought from a good seller. Glad to hear they are doing the right thing.
Do you have a remote operator for the rear unit? How about the jack and remote pump?

I would think the engagement linkage for the transfer case is out of adjustment. That truck went 1000 miles jiggling on a flathead probably shucking the transfer case output shaft back and forth-maybe enough to affect a poorly adjusted cable.
