You can certainly wiggle the engine in with the pan on but it won't be without some scratches and maybe a ding or two. Is the plan now to remove the engine and tranny as a unit? If your truck has the removable front crossmember, I would pull the powerpack as an assy and strip it outside the truck.
Just being there is important. How you manage that is up to you. I've driven an MV every year from S Fla but if I couldn't, I would get there by whatever means available.
Oooh, I just thought of something that's pretty important. Clutch alignment tool. I have an old input shaft that I've used for years. Can bring that along too.
I will compliment JW4x4s offer of M18 tools by bringing my own collection to include another 1/2 impact, a 3/8 or 1/4 impact and a gaggle of batteries and chargers. Will have saws and grinders as well.
