Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Well this is what I came up with. I'm pretty sure it's a long term "cheap" solution. I have a total of $9 bucks in it right now, but that will go over $40 when I buy the replacement solenoid for the air horn. I also would like to get a back up in case this one fails. I just couldn't help my self...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Thanks Gents. I'm not sure why I didn't say this earlier, but if you look at the picture of the actuator you can see a tiny drop of coolant coming out of the pin hole. I also noticed that when the truck was cooling down, coolant would blow out of that hole with air! It also appeared that coolant...

Well I was feeling good about Bigboy. So I drove him to work this past Friday night and everything seemed good. I drove him for about 20 minutes to work. Parked, Got out and checked for leaks and there was none. Once my handheld computer DL'd about 15 minutes I came back out and rechecked for...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

That is correct. Big boy is apparently fixed. Everywhere I shot the temp gun showed the engine and all but one hose never got over 180.One heater hose reached 203.At the time the fan activated the temp gauge was reading about 260. I'm still not sure why the system still had pressure in it about...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Does anyone know what a "High temperature Switch" is? I seen it in the manual, but it really didn't state what it did or where it went to. I ask because my truck had one, Someone down the line cut it off. Wondering if I should replace it or not. Thanks for the info.

I did say boiling water! What I should have said was I was boiling water to check the variance between the food thermometer and the temp gun. The water never really got to boil. It was close though! Other than that, I'm not sure what your saying!

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

I finally broke down and bought a temp gun....I know, I know. Well let me start from the beginning. I went out this morning and after letting the truck run up to 240 on the gauge yesterday, I removed the rad cap, and a huge rush of air came out. That really surprised me since I vented the system...

Wheelspinner;I have caged the fan before and it did absolutely nothing. In fact after I drove the truck to turn in some cans. The actuator got stuck in the open position and no decrease in temp.Side note: When rebuilding the actuator make sure you get the right size high heat o rings. The ones I...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

In a sad way I hope those plates show all kinds of crap, but when I removed the middle plate for the block heater it was picture perfect inside, as well when I removed the water pump.I must have re-rebuilt the actuator wrong because the temp reached 240 and the fan never came on. SO I shut it...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

rhurey; I have not checked the engine temp with a seperate source. I think I need to do that! Artisan; I have not removed the inspection plates! I will do that tomorrow since I've already taken everything apart again.Just to make sure there is 3 correct on the passenger side of the motor? I...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Alright, I cleaned the radiator, replaced the clogged small hose, replaced the thermostat, took every hose off and cleaned out, replaced filter, replaced crossover pipe, flushed the engine, replaced temp sensor, checked the water pump, added new coolant and distilled water,rebuilt...

I thank you for the advice, but am not sure what you are saying. Could you be more specific? Please and Thank You!

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

So I finally figured out the "main cause" The radiator was completely plugged. It took me almost 2 hours to power wash the thing clean. I still have 4-5 ports that won't clean out, but I'm happy with how the rad sits. Now on to putting everything back together!

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Well today has been a trying day at best, I had an MRI to check for the same problems Momma had and might have found something different. I then decided to come home and work on bigboy after seeing Mommason, just to get my mind off of things and this is what I found. One the radiator is...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

I finally had enough of just looking at bigboy. SO I broke off about 2 hours to get into it. I took the coolant tank hoses off. 1) The long one that goes to the radiator had some build up in it, with chunks of what appeared to be chunks of rust. So I blew that line out with 140 psi and believe...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Thanks for the info gents. But Bigboy is on permanent hold for the foreseeable future! My mother had to have emergency brain surgery this week and of course her insurance isn't excepted anywhere on this planet. So I'm going to have to put all of my attention into her well being. Sadly this also...

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

Does anyone know of the radiator gasket number or where to buy it? I'm wanting to pull the rad and completely go through it just to eliminate it as a possibility of my overheating problem.

Yet More coolant issues! 84' M923

I think this is what I'm going to check next. I have flushed the cooling system earlier this year and did get a bunch of rusty water and sludge.I flushed until clean ,but it still could be plugged. This is what came out of the radiator after the coolant was gone.

Yes I did read the TM on how to adjust the tension on the water pump drive belt,I did notice that in the TM it said to use a brass whatever bar and that is something I don't have. I'm sure that a 2' long prybar is going to be good enough for turning that tensioner. But it is frozen or stuck. It...
