As long as you are not using it in a "For Hire" application you should not have any problem with the scales. The definition of a "Commercial Vehicle" by the FMCSA is any vehicle used in a "for hire" application that weighs more than 10,000 lbs. There is a quick excersize on the FMCSA website...
