ME-323, the Messerschmitt "GIANT" - Largest Air Transport of WWII

No doubt, I'm sure they had some surprises. Back then they really were test pilots, no flight simulators.

ME-323, the Messerschmitt "GIANT" - Largest Air Transport of WWII

This is the StratoLaunch aircraft that was just rolled out a couple of months ago. I was surprised to see that a single large horizontal was not used. The aircraft will carry rockets and launch them into space from high altitudes. The aircraft is constructed mostly of composites.

ME-323, the Messerschmitt "GIANT" - Largest Air Transport of WWII

ME-323, the Messerschmitt "GIANT" - Largest Air Transport of WWII

Chaplain, here are some photos of an ME-323 wreck on land and in the drink. Couple more of an ME-323 in flight and the ME-323 in combat over Malta. Wikipedia says they built over 200 of these aircraft. Too bad there are no easy to recover survivors.

Chaplain, the ME-323s clamshell doors are similar to those on the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. Neat aircraft thanks for the post.
