The single circuit "issue" is something that I have in the back of my mind every time I drive. It might have sounded condescending, but I was being sincere about the risk.

Might I suggest searching brake failures here? It's unfortunately common with the single circuit system. Maybe it will convince you to at least use a dual circuit system. I'm guessing it won't, but I will sleep better tonight at least.

Here's a few reasons not to.
1. The previously mentioned braking issue in the wet. But since you're going to use it to augment your braking, I guess that's a moot point.
2. You're going to add this to the existing braking system? Are you going to change the master cylinder to keep it...
