    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

It's been a while, but I finally solved my issue with the aux fuel pump and line not pulling fuel unless the source was elevated. As I mentioned previously, I pressure tested the pickup line. No leaks under pressure. I finally got around to pulling a vacuum on the line. The line leaks under...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

That might explain a lot! :funny:

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

That was a good thought, but no, that wasn't the case.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I pressurized the hose to 25 PSI and used soapy water out of a spray bottle. I'll take your suggestion and repeat the test and submerge the aux fuel hose in water. This is very easy to do.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I absolutely agree with you. It has to be on the suction side. Perhaps there are multiple pinholes in the hose that are small enough that I didn't see any bubbles with the soapy water when I pressurized with air but between all of them enough air gets in to kill the suction of diesel fuel. Or...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

Definitely the correct pump for both original and new. I ordered a new FACET 480517E pump from Yacht Supply Depot as they had the cheapest price I could find. Both pumps produce the specified PSI on the output side when using short input tubing to diesel supply. This hasn't been a significant...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

Definitely has proper voltage at pump when running and also when I jumpered the pump directly to the batteries.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I've let it run as much as one hour.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

Draw tube is clean and clear and the line to the tank is clear. I did bench test both the old and new pumps. Both work fine with short hoses although suction is not a high as I would have thought. Both behave identically. I can blow through the line to the tank with the solenoid valve open.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

Yes, and I always keep the cap on unless using the aux pump.

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I did blow out the hose. It is completely unrestricted and the fittings are in good condition. I'm hooking up the aux fuel line directly to the dip or draw tube that came with it. I cleaned the sediment screens on all of the pumps. There was some trash in the other pump screens, but the aux...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I actually pressurized the aux fuel line with compressed air at 25 PSI. I then used a spray bottle with dawn liquid dish detergent to look for leaks. I went the entire length and didn't find any leaks. The aux fuel line was obviously used before, but looks almost new. I was fortunate when I...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

The solenoid valve is working correctly. I found a new one on Ebay that I bought as a spare. I eventually replaced the solenoid valve with the new NOS one when I was bored one day. No difference. I tested the old one, which is now my spare, and it opens completely. The secondary fuel supply...

    Testing Aux Fuel Pump Operation

I have an MEP003A genset. I use the aux fuel pump often because we are way back in the woods and have frequent power outages. When I picked up the genset, the float / switch inside the tank was burned out. I found a cheap NOS one on Ebay, which works great. Although I use the aux pump, I do...
