    M1009 Speedometer question

Used speedo installed with 22,xxx miles. Took it for a spin today and the needle bounced from 0-45 then it stayed steady. Mileage was pretty accurate from stop sign to stop sign, which is a mile on the road by my house. Then the needle started jumping at all speeds. Not sure if the cable...

    M1009 Speedometer question

Yeah I guess the mileage really is irrelevant in my case. It shows 23,8xx. Given the dents, dings, and a few rust spots underneath...it’s probably at least 123k. The interior is missing lots of trim and the windows that open/close all need new rubber. The engine runs pretty good but there’s...

    M1009 Speedometer question

When you replaced the head, did you have to reset the mileage to reflect what was on it or did you just start at zero?

    M1009 Speedometer question

Yes it's an M1009. Are you referring to the little gear box that the speedo cable plugs into? I took that apart and cleaned it up. There was some grease left in the housing that was clean so I used it to lube the little gears. It goes speedo cable, little gear box, then it screws into a...

    M1009 Speedometer question

The speedo lube came in and it was basically a graphite oil. I lubed up the cable really well and it slide back into the housing no problems. However, my speedo is way off and it's bouncing. It says I'm doing about 65 when going 40. I opened her up on the highway, not sure how fast I was...

    M1009 Speedometer question

That link worked no problem. Since your post was underlined, I thought it was a link. It was white, not orange so I thought it was a dead link. My apologies. Thanks for all your help.

    M1009 Speedometer question

Link to the thread doesn’t work. I ordered some speedo lube from Dorman on Amazon. I have regular red grease for bearings but I figured that was too thick.

    M1009 Speedometer question

So the cable is out, easy enough. What type of lube did you use? I’ve had some conflicting info from O’Reilly’s. They have a dry graphite lube and then an oil based graphite lube from Dorman.

    M1009 Speedometer question

I bought the yellow gear and hoping just to get it working for now. I’ve got other issues to address before tires. Currently have 15” rims and would like to put a good set of tires for everyday use and occasional off road.

    M1009 Speedometer question

Thanks. I just wasn’t sure if I had to pull the entire cable off the truck to get the inner cable back in. I order the new gear and lube off Amazon and hopefully I can get this done next week.

    M1009 Speedometer question

Can this be done without completely removing the cable housing from the truck? Or is it too hard to snake the inner cable back through with it mounted on the truck?

    M1009 Speedometer question

Gotcha...so since it's there, I should replace the gear with the stripped out square hole?

    M1009 Speedometer question

I pulled apart the little housing with the metal gears and cleaned it up. There was some light brown grease left inside that was clean so I used it to lube up the gears when I put it back together. I'd rather fix it permanently than use foil. I just want to make sure that's all I need before...

    M1009 Speedometer question

I didn't see another gear other than the large one inside the transfer case. See attached pictures. Also, I didn't see a second gear in the TM-20P (attached as well). I think I'm missing parts 5 and 6.

    M1009 Speedometer question

I know this has been covered but I couldn't find the answer to my specific issue. My speedo and odometer aren't working. I unplugged where they conned to the transfer case and used a drill to confirm that the speedo works. Next, I pulled the gear from the transfer case and took it apart. It...
