YES! :gimp:
No more :jumpin: when I see something I want and no more :cookoo: ideas on modifying something that I  over in the first place! I'm keeping my head on straight and enjoying what I have. If I want something else, I'll save up and buy it.
I learned a valuable lesson (that...
Robo McDuff,
My situation is unique. Well, sort of. My project is "outsourced." I'm providing the $$ and parts, someone else is doing the work. It's been slow for reasons unknown.
I do not have any drawings or measurements. I have a few pictures, but not much to help.
If you PM me, I can...
Thanks Gimp!
In the mean time, I'm always on the scout for an M117, M118, or M119 trailer. (I think those are the designators for a single-axle, 6-ton, flatbed trailer). I'll even consicer a 20' single-axle container chassis, if I can find one of those. Green paint is all I need at that point...
UPDATE ALERT!!
I think today is the three-year anniversery of the last time I drove my truck, (which was when I drove it up to have the resto done)!
It's still there.
I'm still here.
Kids have all gone off to college.
Dog is gray in the snout.
I'll post back when I know more.
My tractor project was hired out to complete. I don't have the facillities, time or tools to do the job properly, myself.
When you're not, "hands on," you're at the mercy. This is where my project and I became disconnected.
A few individuals have expressed an interest in purchasing it and...
NDT,
Thanks. You have a point. A good point.
I'm going to try something. I really hate to give up on this. I love the truck. It has a lot of sentimental value that goes all the way back to when I picked it up in Vermont and drove it back to Ohio.
Maybe I just need to go visit with it.
I got a call from the location in question. He told me that he will replace the cab components t make it, "weather-tight" and not just a pile-o-parts. I'm not sure that he will have this done by the weekend. I doubt it.
Chris, buddy. If there is any way we can get that rig down to Kip...
It is with the absolute greatest disappointment that I have to say that this project has not materialized.
I will not post the reasons for this, but I will simply say that what I have in the form of a deuce tractor (project) will be parted out and/or scrapped.
I failed.
I failed to...
Agreed!
I've learned a number of things along the way. I don't (think I) regret this decision to convert to a tractor. I know when it's all done I'll have what I want.
Sometimes I just think I was born to learn things the hard way. Hence, the reason you'll NEVER catch me in Las Vegas. If...
Yes! The guys at Clark Truck have hooked me up. I'm not saying they were over-priced, but the spacers alone were $250.00!!! That's before shipping!
That stung a little.
That was the only delay in the build project. As soon as they arrive in IN, we'll be back underway. All is well, now.
If you, or anyone, would like to complete this project, it's at a point where it will come together well.
I will make a cargo bed available with the "kit" if need be. I have access to one, but it's in Ohio.
Hey, I'm trying. besides, I don't really want to go "parts truck" on this one...
Thanks brothers!
I believe it is a result of "separation anxiety" from not having my truck, and "economic impact" from day-to-day expenses I'm experiencing lately.
I'm making a sacrifice. I'll have to lose some $$ here to gain a foot-hold.
Not sure what else to do right now.
The title of this thread until today was: "Changing a cargo truck to a tractor"
The latest on my project:
(Enter the sound of crickets chirping here.)
I'm strongly considering a complete sell-out of this project as it stands.
My truck was a cargo, and is now a bed-less deuce with 5-ton...
I opted out on the winch. It more than doubled the price of the rack. I may put a toolbox in that space if I can come up with an idea for one that I like. Either that, or a cage of some type. There's a lot of space there. Ideal for cots, sleeping bags, or whatever.
Here are my goodies that Jim brought up to IN. He worked hard getting everything removed and loaded in a short time.
(There's actually a lot more here than the pics reveal. Fifth-wheel, approach ramps, diamond-plate "decking," pogo-stick, etc.)
The headache rack was from Clark Trucks in WVA.
The bed removal/parts trade with Hkx3 went well! We did the work at MVR&R in Albion, IN in about three hours. Removing the smaller parts like mud guards and bumperettes seemed to be the most time consuming. NOTHING would have been possible without air tools and penetrating oil! Jim (Hkx3)...
Jeff,
Perfect! Thanks! Exactly what I needed! (Well actually, probably the thing I didn't need to see!)
Kind of like setting a box of Twinkies out in front of a hungry man. (I know! A grown man shouldn't be eating anything called a Twinkie! But, they're good! Especially frozen!)
Now...
Kenny,
You are a wealth of great knowledge. They're going to have to pickle your brain and put it in a jar on a shelf next to Einstein's when you're gone.
I've Googled the M118 and M146. Could you or anyone PM or e-mail me a few pics or line-drawings, or tell me where to browse trailer...
