    M989 vs M989a1

I got mine home a couple days ago. It fit perfectly on my trailer. I had them load the tongue to the front so I had no hang over in the rear. My pickup towed it nicely, but only got about 8mpg, it's not light. I'm painting the wood deck, it was sun baked to the extreme. Then I'll move it to...

    M989 vs M989a1

I don't any interest in owning another one but if somebody wants one for cheap look in GSA California. They must have more than you can shake a stick at down there. They might need to start paying people to take them, lol

    M989 vs M989a1

Are there rules here about talking about active auctions on GSA? If there aren't I would say more trailers are up in Cali.

    M989 vs M989a1

Where it needs to go there is no way to pull it from the rear. There is no asphalt to worry about. I might need to load it on a trailer, and roll it off the back where I need it, what a pain that would be. What I really need is a drive thru spot. I will need to work on that idea. I appreciate...

    M989 vs M989a1

I have a hitch extension for my pickup. It allows you to tow something behind a long camper in the bed. I wonder if that would help my pickup back it up by increasing the distance from the rear wheels to the pintle hook? Where ever I store this trailer it will need to be backed by something, and...

    M989 vs M989a1

I don't have the experience backing like you guys do. Backing a truck on a tow bar is very difficult by yourself sometimes the vehicle doesn't even want to follow when going forward if you turn from a stop, tow bars have been a pain for me. I won't have the backing problem bringing it home cuz...

    M989 vs M989a1

Worse?? They must be incredibly bad! What are the mechanics that are going on with them? I understand they can be pinned like a shelter carrier dolly. I thought that would make backing them easier than something on a tow bar. What was the tow vehicle you were using?

    M989 vs M989a1

I remember that M1009 felt like it had 4 wheel steering, but I only had control of the front wheels that I didn't dare turn. I passed that exact same spot on the freeway yesterday(I'll never forget it), and there were 4 crosses there with fresh flowers.

    M989 vs M989a1

I imagine backing one of these trailers is like backing a vehicle on a tow bar without anyone holding the steering wheel of the towed vehicle.

    M989 vs M989a1

We've all done some crazy things in the past that we wouldn't do again, but yep that wouldn't be safe. I bought a Deuce once that had a froze up air pack that I didn't realize until I tried to stop. Did make it home the 50 miles. Flat towed a M1009 with another M1009, made it home with that one...

    M989 vs M989a1

I saw that figure too. and one company that made them says 18'. It made me think there were different versions. I thought they had the same tires as the HEMTT too, since that was what is intended to tow it, but I've not seen any of these trailers up close. Pictures showing the HEMTT towing one...

    M989 vs M989a1

I thought the requirement was strange at 1st too, but we're dealing with the military directly on this. Starting bid was $50 on them and the reserve price was $100. That doesn't make much sense to me either, especially considering what the military pays for their stuff. I think the sales were...

    M989 vs M989a1

Yes, they won't let them be towed off. I have a trailer that will haul 24k. It's the length, specifically wheelbase that is my concern. I didn't see that in the TM either. If you have one of these trailers....would you measure yours? Many thanks!

    M989 vs M989a1

The last sale is over. There have been at least 4 sales on GSA auctions that I saw so far, about 20 trailers each sale. They are the HEMTT trailers, but they call them at the army depot M989. I thought that before the a1 was added they might have been just M989, but it sounds like the HEMAT...

    M989 vs M989a1

These trailers are selling by the dozens in CA for under $500. I'm not sure if they are M989, or the M989a1. Is there a difference in dimensions, and tire size? Especially interested in the wheelbase of them since it would need to be hauled. Thanks
