Update from the driver: he emailed at 1630 to say he was in St. Louis (coming to KC from Indy). I guess he hasn't had any problems yet.

Good call, I'd say you're right. There is no other reason to balance that much weight on the truck.

That's a stretch. I haven't documented anything. I said I personally wouldn't do it, but I have ZERO experience in the commercial hauling business. I (nor anyone else here) knows the GVWR of the truck nor how much the fire engine weighs. It is his company, they are liable.
