I am not toally certain on this, but I seem to recall reading somewhere along the way, that HP numbers today, are rated differently that they were say 30-40 years ago.
Any insight on that?
Yup. Everyone thinks they have a gajillion HP, but so few actually know. When they see the real dyno numbers one of two things ususally happens: they either slink off quietly, or figure the dyno must be wrong.
200 seems reasonable to me for sure for a slightly modded deuce engine. Any more I'd think would take a fair amount of work beyond just turning up the fuel.
I wasn't referring to the stock numbers. Seems everyone pretty much agrees on them.
I was talking about the "I turned it up to 500HP" thing. Where did those numbers come from?
One question I have for everyone involved here:
Has anyone found a dyno that can handle a tandem equipped truck and actually ran a deuce on it to see what it is truly doing, or are all of the numbers being spouted here just speculation? I can guess all day at the HP output of an engine, but...

That said, I think another example of diesels being used within their capacity can be witnessed on any mountainous stretch of interstate...
