I respectfully withdraw my recommendation. If you are going to haul on hilly roads, don't get a deuce. Around here it's fairly flat. I have driven on hills and the deuce sucks. The deuce would be cool, but those hills will kill you. What you need is a 5 ton.:twisted:

I wouldn't worry too much about the cost of up keep. I don't think it would be any more than any other vehicle of this size. GL-1 gear lube is cheap (that's what you put in the axle and so forth), It's a little more oil than a small truck, but the miles you sound like you will put on it won't...
To answer your question, MY OPINION is, yes. To the tow rig not your sanity. That kind of weight range will work well and if you look around you can find a nice running deuce that might need a little work for under 3K. For your needs you don't need a winch, that's just extra weight and money but...
