Kenny, pretty much all of the aal's today are the type Croatan described. Meant to be bolted into the pack.
I've had good luck with long aal's in the past but that was on vehicles with positively arched springs, not sure how they'd work on our stock front springs.
I've got 1" of lift up front, stock rear suspension, cut fenders, and narrow 38's and I'd have to say 50% of the folks who walk up to Big Ugly think it's lifted at least 4".
Dude, you're in Colorado and you have a 73-87(91) GM fullsize. Go get a screen name on www.ColoradoK5.com . You've probably got 30 guys on there within easy driving distance of you.
Pretty much anything below 12.5" wide is considered narrow in a 38" tall tire. Guys talk of my 11-11.5" wide 11.00R16's as pizza cutters.:-D
4" of lift, some front axle moving, and a helping of cutting has been used to make 44's fit so these are certainly doable. Just depends how much work...
