After studying the IP t.m. I don't believe it is the governor springs. They appear to be too large. However, the timing device is in the front of the pump. The springs are much smaller and I can easily see how they could come out and get chewed up by the pump drive gear and end up in the oil...
Hmm thats a very good question. I honestly don't know what the rings on a multifuel piston look like.
What has me intrigued is in the top right of his photo I can't tell if thats more springs or twisted safety wire. There also appears to be a chunk of something that isn't spring or safety wire.
I spy springs and safety wire. I'd guess its from the injector pump. Probably the governor assembly. The governor does way more than limit the max rpm of the engine.
