You probably could use rtv, but I'd make one out of sheet gasket. This link might help the other question: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/49669-rear-main-seal-replaced-leaking-bad.html

I have had some PMs on that gasket. It came in a whole motor gasket set. I think the last guy that asked me about it made his own. Yes, when I had my trans out, I filled it about a half inch below the fill hole. I wouldn't fill it that full.

After running the truck for a bit, jump under and see where the trans fluid level is. When I replaced my rear main, I drained and refilled the trans. About a half inch from the bottom of the fill plug. When I put it back together and drove it (hard) to Tn it did the same thing. I stopped in...

Yeah, funny thing is, I usually use a face shield when working on stuff as the glasses don't protect enough. Figures one of the few times I don't, I get reminded why I wear them. Jakob. Send me a PM mon with an addy. I'll send it once I'm done. Kinda slammed right now.

    rear main seal

No sweat, I like to see what I am getting into before I do the job. Since there wasn't many pics, I figured I post a few. It really isn't that bad, just time consuming, ALSO! Once you put the new rear main seal in the "keeper", I oiled mine up to put it on the crank. DON'T SET IT ON THE DIRTY...

Crap! That whole big reply just disapeared! Anyway, no other leaks. I am going to rtv the bolts through the bell and I cleaned the snot out of the breather. I will be picking up a busted trans tomorrow. I need to pull the input shaft to use as a clutch alignment tool. Anyone got any hints so I...

some more. While working above your head, don't drop a wrench and catch the open end with your nose.

More pics. I pulled the fill plug out of the trans and couldn't reach gear oil unless I stuck my pinky in there. I think my problem was gear oil. I included some more pics of the rear main removal and installation since I couldn't find many in my research prior to this job.

I think it was gear oil, it was mostly in front of the flywheel. I replaced the rear main anyway as I had a new one here. I gotta shower, will post more pics in a bit, I will include the bloody photos too.

"seal carrier gasket "? You got me on that one. Is that for the trans or motor? Most of the mess is on the front. I will get pics of that stuff tomorrow.

So since my trip to N.C. I have had oil dripping from the hole at the bottom of the bell housing. The clutch started slipping on the way home from Findlay. I thought it was motor oil as it appeared the motor oil level was getting lower(need to check it tomorrow). I pulled the trans today and...
