    I agree with keeping the flying metal to a minimum. There is a really handy TM on this site about recovery and rigging. If you are doing anything in this area, please read it. Then read it again.

    I use a 3" x 30' hawser rope that is used by tugboats. If I need an extension, only then do I consider chain. Once the winch gets mounted, I will still keep the rope!
