    Why 2650rpm max?

Boost will add stress to the rod but only compression stress, this is where the rod is very strong. It would not have much effect on the bolts or cap. If you look at SS tractor pullers they run up to 250psi manifold pressure. Failures are common. While often it is hard to tell what broke this...

    Why 2650rpm max?

I drove a commercial tractor trailer for 25+ years. 90% Macks. The early years w/U models, the bulk with CH/Vision's using strangled EM7-250 or 315s. In all those years, with many dozens of co-workers, I only -heard- of one internal engine failure. Some new guy managed to grossly...

    Why 2650rpm max?

Maybe for a deuce. I don't have much experience with springs. I remember when I first rebuilt my 70 GTO 400 (30y ago), those 130K mile springs all measured 50-80lbs seat pressure. The factory spec was 100 or 110. The lesson learned was always replace them. I don't even test old springs now, just...

    Why 2650rpm max?

I don't think anyone needs to worry about rod/rod bolts getting weak due to age. Tightening a bolt is a stressful but not repetitive, hopefully, lol. No fatigue there. Since bolt is designed to fall short of its 'yield point' , even when running, it will remain stable. Flex under...

    Why 2650rpm max?

Page 54 or the LDS-465-1 Troubleshooting Manual states there are two types of pins, hollow and solid, an that they can be used in various engines as long as they are a matched set. As they are most likely made of them same material they should have different weights. Apparently balance isn't...

    Why 2650rpm max?

Chuck makes many good points. The bolt tension during operation is added to the tension on the assembled bolt. Over-tightening increses this tension even more, as does excessive rpm.

    Why 2650rpm max?

Metal is a lot stronger in compression than tension. Power compresses the rod (where it is strong). The piston reversal at TDC puts the rod and rod bolts in tension. As RPM increases the force increases at an exponential rate. The crankshaft rotation after TDC on the intake stroke puts the...
