How fast does a M1008 go?

You'd be surprised. Bill Heath once made a comment that when the 6.2's first came out, they found out they could spin them as high as 5,300RPM WITHOUT them flying apart. Long story short, a diesel's a diesel. It may not operate at as high a speed, but it operates at higher pressures than a...

How fast does a M1008 go?

Hmm. . . intresting. I don't know if its just my speedo, but my needle has a tendency to shake like a hula girl doll around the edges of the gauge. It doesn't like to steady out until about 15MPH on the low side and often starts shaking around when I'm topping the truck out on the high side...

How fast does a M1008 go?

@91W350 Really? Didn't know that. Guess you learn something new everyday. . . Well, the gear ratios are the same, otherwise they'd be fighting each other and you would know it. HOWEVER, it still doesn't mean the truck HASN'T been regeared. Have a look at the front diff next time you change...

How fast does a M1008 go?

The wires are probably for the tranny. I noticed these on mine. It could have been regeared. Next time you change your front diff oil pull the cover off and look for you ring gear (the big gear that sticks out past the diff housing) and the pinion gear (the smaller gear at a 90 degree angle to...

How fast does a M1008 go?

@91W350 good point. I forgot about that. I've never seen one with 8-lug wheels either. Then again I've never heard of an '87 M1008 :snopes check:

How fast does a M1008 go?

No. The M1009 uses the GM 10 bolt axle on both ends. The M1008 uses the GM 14 bolt axle in the rear. It might have been swapped out by somebody. Go count the bolts on the differential cover on the back. If its secured with 10 bolts, its a 10 bolt. If its secured with 14, its the original...

How fast does a M1008 go?

I'd say just keep the pistol on you. Easier to reach if you need it and there's not a lot of places to hide it in the truck anyways. Thats your fill plug. Wouldn't suprise me if somebody rounded out the square hole on the old one and decided to replace it once they got it off. If they were...

How fast does a M1008 go?

The Gear Vendors is pricey, but you should be able to put it on the truck yourself. About the biggest modification you'll have to do is get a shorter driveshaft. P.S. ???? Don't know how the thread got on 1911's. . . Unless you have a concealed carry permit, I wouldn't try hiding it in the truck.

How fast does a M1008 go?

:ditto: There were a couple of OD units that were/are made. One is no longer in productinon and I can't remember the name to save my life, but it attached around the rear axle. A gear vendors OD would attach to the rear of the T-case w,hereas you still have the original slip yoke. There...

How fast does a M1008 go?

I believe the max RPM's given by the military were 3,600 with a load, 4,000 without.

How fast does a M1008 go?

Sounds like it should still have the stock TH400. Mine shifts at about the same speed. Oh, by the way, did you buy the truck from a place called Yellowstone Truck Stop? Sounds like you may have bought one I was looking at for a bit 8)

How fast does a M1008 go?

Mmm. . . might just be the speedo. I'd double check your speed with a GPS if you have one. My speedo usually reads about 3-5mph over the actual speed. Has it been regeared or had bigger tires put on? I still drive mine around at about 55-60. It would appear I'm already leaking oil from a...
