The bb's in dryer sound turned out to be something related to the 4WD. I had been in 4-Hi , hubs unlocked, without realizing it. Once I disengaged the front wheels, the bb's in dryer sound stopped. I've had a lot of problems with my PS pump bracket... it's been welded, and I always check...
Reviving this old thread because I've done some work and gotten some results!
The loose injector: Tightened it. Nothing changed.
Cleaned fuel return "check valve". Mine, being an '86, doesn't seem to have the "glass ball" type that others have talked about. I have some pictures I'll...
A million thanks to SS member "ChicagoDiesel" for helping me remove and replace my harmonic balancer, as well as point out a few other things I should look at. The big one is that my rear-most passenger-side fuel injector seems to be leaking fuel.
The engine is running more smoothly, but...
That's somewhat comforting... anybody else want to comment on whether their front driveshaft has some play in it? And whether it's supposed to? :deadhorse:
I would love some help changing out the balancer. I've been meaning to put new belts on too. They aren't bad... but I'd rather not...
Not really. I've gotten used to it. The "bb in a clothes dryer" sound stopped once I figured out that I was in 4-Hi and switched into 2-Hi. Not sure if I should be concerned about that... I'll probably only rarely use the 4WD so since the noise isn't there in 2-Hi I'm not gonna worry about...
I have wondered about that place on Western just north of Belmont. I feel like an expert diesel mechanic driving my M1009 around for 10 minutes could probably save me a heck of a lot of time trying to figure this stuff out on my own.
I'll probably re-pack my front wheel bearings in the next...
I am experiencing a sound something like a BB rattling around in a clothes dryer. Could this be the flex plate? Is this a problem urgent enough to stop driving altogether?
nope, mine's a sanded-down green CARC (previous owner had a lot of weird ideas, like painting the seats with vinyl paint that's now all flaking off). I'm at Spaulding and Beach (headquarters of the Latin Kings I'm told).
Anyway, YES! Let's get together and get these things fixed up! I took...
Great ideas, thanks everybody. I have changed the engine oil / filter about a month ago. Have all the stuff to do Tranny, T-Case, and Front Diff. It's got a brand new rear axle assembly in it... see other threads for that debacle.
I put in a new (Onio Generator) starter and I bought the...
My M1009 has been doing pretty well lately, but sometimes it runs with that sound as though something is slightly off-center. Not the full-on "beater" sound, but a rhythmic "wum-wum-wum-wum-wum", especially evident when accelerating and at lower engine speeds. At faster speeds it may just be...
