    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Fixed my truck for the time being... used good ol' JB Weld to fix some lead weigths to the drums. I did a 200 miles plus round trip today with flying colors...speeds up to 70 MPH. None of them flung out. I let them harden real good overnight. Before that, cleaned the area real well with...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Hey, the idea is good. I appreciate your input. I will wait for their reply. I would definitively buy 2 for the rears. I saw some similar as I would need (F350 8 lug) and they are running at $190.00 a piece:shock:. Anyway, I would acquire them since I am planning to keep my truck until either...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

I sent them a message to see if they carry a model for Dodge 2500. They seem to have a very limited number of options at this time. If they wish, I guess they could have a bigger business going on. I do not like the idea of having beads rolling inside my tires.

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

That is what I have seen too. But the drums in my truck do not show even a trace that they had a counterweight somewhere, anytime. I am convinced now that these must be aftermarket. I have this truck since new and I do not recall the vibration when it took off fron the Chrysler dealer. It is odd...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Right On!!:grd: You are well equipped sir. BTW, I will be visiting a friend in Cleveland, TN next week. Just for curiosity, how far away are you from there?

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Allen, I am pretty sure you will be surpised as I was. Anyways, apart from the hassle, checking/balancing my drums came out free as Pep Boys will re-balance your tire/wheels practically forever if you bought them there. Funny thing, actually the cure for the cause was the cheapest of them...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Guys! I finally nailed the problem!!! OUT OF BALANCE DRUMS!! Or I should say, really bad manufacturing QC. Let me tell my story to guys who will definitively understand this relief. I went today to my local Pep Boys joint and asked the service manager that I wanted to balance my truck's...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Ok Allen, I will find the cure and let you know. Although it might not fit your particular truck. BUT, since the symptoms and the treatment has been SO similar, I guess we are finally cornering the culprit. I am trying to find in my mind if I ever changed these drums with aftermarket (cheapo)...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

I will be performing further testing this Thursday. Yes, I found out that brake drums may be balanced on a tire/wheel balancing machine. It just has to be set to static mode to perform the task. I will find out if my local Pep Boys has such setting on their machines. I am almost convinced...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

BTW, has anyone here tried those Counteract balancing beads that you put inside your tire and allegedly balance your tire/wheel forever? Sounds interesting but would like more info before trying them. I understand this technique is familiar with semi-trailers.

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

I have been working in a very similar problem on my stock '99 Dodge Ram 2500 w/Cummins. I have changed to new stock size tires, new stock wheels, new shocks and the hop is there all the time at around 50-55 MPH. I checked with a vibration monitor Android app on my smartphone and pinpointed the...
