    Exciter Wire Question

Stampy Well I've considered a "jump wire", for the #2 alt exciter wire......but I have no idea where to tap power off of, so that it would work properly when you turn on the key. But I'm "GUESSING" (since I don't really have clue) is that maybe this is not a ground issue after all, and it is...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Just got home, cleaned the contacts on the dual plug for #2 Alt, it was dirty looking. I scraped as far as I could get with a small knife, and hosed the crud out of it with brake shoe cleaner. I hooked it up, and fired up the truck, but #2 light came on and stayed on even after it...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog I am off tomorrow, City of Phx Holiday, (Ceaser chavez Day), I am going shooting in the morning with a friend, when I return I will clean the dual plug, it did look very dirty. I crimped the extended wires together, but put extra force on them when crimping, then tugged on them to make...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Well the truck is definitely NOT healed! I started her this morning, and both lights came on (woo-hoo), and went out when the truck started.......but I saw this little "milisecond" light up of the #2 light after it was running. I took off and made it to the end of the block and...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog I checked the diode with the key on, both sides had 24V but still no light at #2 dash position. But I have to take the truck in tomorrow for a smog inspection (opacity) as my registration expires on Thursday. So knowing that it will start a few more times, even though #2 Alt isn't...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog I'm at work and won't be able to respond back until I get home, but according to your last post I need to have the ignition key ON then check both sides of that diode I uncovered last night I would ASSume I'm going to put the red lead on both sides of the little diode, and put the...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Already done that this morning, 24V on the red wire, but nothing on the brown wire with the key on or off. Which I figured would happen since I still have no #2 dash light. What's next? I think what ever is wrong is directly connected to that light not working, but I'm just guessing.

    Exciter Wire Question

That's 24V on the Brown/Red, and 12V on the pink/black. The other plug was the relay plug next to the Gen2 plug.

    Exciter Wire Question

the brown and red wire and the pink and black wire, and the other relay plug in the sheet metal plate next to the Gen2 one.

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Just checked those wires and have both 12 and 24 V at that plug, only have 12V on the other plug. So does this mean the relay is bad? Or is it another issue?

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Just checked the Gen2 diode with the key on there is power at the wire harness side of the plug, I did an Ohm test on the diode, and it showed numbers one way but not the other, so I assume that mean it's ok. I'll now go check the wires you mentioned at the relay plugs, and will report back

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog All the fuses are good I've checked them all 3 times so far. That Gen2 diode behind the heatr control is what I mistook for another relay. I think I'll see if I can get a new one at NAPA, thinking about new relays as well.

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog That scematic worked perfectly and I was able to upsize it so I could read it.......COOL! But I want to know what's that diode that appears to be coming off the fusebox at the bottom of that drawing, what's it do, and where exactly is it located on the truck? Also with the key on, I...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Is that the relay on my sheet metal plate? I ask, as it appears there may be another relay, taped up to the wiring harness behind the heater controls.....besides the two small relays on the plate. Also, I was able to run off the electrical part of the manual with the help of a computr...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog Per your PM that my computer wouldn't let me respond to: All 4 bulbs that are up in the left corner of the dash work, but none of them will work in the #2 position even though it shows 24V at that position. Is there anyway to trace the ground side of that circuit. Something in the...

    Exciter Wire Question

Where would I find the other end of the circuit boards ground?

    Exciter Wire Question

Doghead.......No I did not clean the flexible circuit board, I wouldn't know how to do it for fear of bending and breaking a circuit. I did pull the entire dash panel out and looked for a broken connection, but all seemed fine. If I have power at the #2 light fitting (and I do!), and ALL my...

    Exciter Wire Question

Warthog.......well crud, I messed that up, as I was switching the bulbs around, and I don't know which one is which!........DOH! ALL 4 bulbs DO work, but NOT in the #2 position, but yet I have 24.6V at that position but NONE of the bulbs work there! I can't understand that! I am thoroughly...

    Exciter Wire Question

Probably isn't the diode, as I just have NO power to #2's excitr wire.......that's got to be the problem. Everything was fine until I mounted all the relays on that plate. So after church this afternoon I plan to remove that plate and the relays from them, and see what I can sort out.....It's...

    Exciter Wire Question

I AM BUMMED!! She's DOWN AGAIN! I put in the dash, and started the truck, I had 14.5V at both alternators....all was well. My truck had the starter relay and the other two plasric relays tucked up under the dash, along with the diagnosis plug. On one of the spare wiring harness I received it...
