I put a manual switch on also just to be there in case. Are all your glowplugs good? The bypass should not affect starting at all if all is in good shape.
Fun day. I estimated 40 minutes to remove both rear wheels and drums to inspect the brakes. Well, the job ultimately involved a sledge, pbblaster, mapp gas, wrecker bar and many other usless tools. Finally got them both! The 40 minutes turned into a few rough hours though.
